jquackenbush
I was asked today from our GIS department if there is a way to export a CAD file (dwg) to a shape file that can be inported into ArcMAP. Does anyone know if this is possible? And if so how to do it. We use AutoCAD 2012, and do have Civil 3D, however have not used it (all of our dwgs are with CAD, not 3D). Any help on this topic would be appreciated.
Murph_map
With Civil3D which has Map3D included in it there is a command named Mapexport that allows you to export to a shp format. Keep in mind that shp files are type specific, one file for points & blocks, one for polygons and another for lines. Text is considered a point type along with blocks and must be styled in ArcMAP.
