rdc Posted November 22, 2006 Posted November 22, 2006 Can anyone help me resolve the issue of having facets in putting a 3d object like sphere, when exported to 3dstudio? In 3d studio there are no facets. I'm new in 3D objects in autocad 2007, and I used to remember there's a control to make it smooth when you export it to 3d studio. Thanks. Quote

Thanks. type 3DSOUT and select the object to save. after you save, a dialog box will come up, make sure Auto Smoothing is On. Quote
rdc Posted November 22, 2006 Author Posted November 22, 2006 type 3DSOUT and select the object to save. after you save, a dialog box will come up, make sure Auto Smoothing is On. 3dsout does not work with Autocad2007 but I had tried doing that in 3dstudio but still shows 12 facets instead of a smooth sphere. Mr T Posted November 22, 2006 Posted November 22, 2006 From the helpfile 2004, don't know iof these will effect he output to 3DS. ALso saving as an old DXF, normally increases the polygon size of the model, this may become horrendously slow.... To raise the render resolution value - At the Command prompt, enter viewres. Ignore the prompt about fast zooms if you only want to make circles and arcs in the drawing look better for your rendering. At the Circle Zoom Percent prompt, enter a high number (up to 20,000). VIEWRES command - Type: Real Saved in: Drawing Initial value: 0.5 Adjusts the smoothness of shaded and rendered objects and objects with hidden lines removed. Valid values are from 0.01 to 10.0. rdc Posted November 22, 2006 Author Posted November 22, 2006 Nick, Thanks for your response it it is not a view resolution issue, its more or a variable issue. With Autocad 2007 when you type setver then ? the list became longer and some had been changed. I cannot recall though what variable name you increase value to make sharp edges (segments) go away. Mr T Posted November 28, 2006 Posted November 28, 2006 I'll look at this in '07 tomorrow if I can get time. Nick Quote
Sittingbull Posted June 15, 2012 Posted June 15, 2012 Hi all, Did anyone found out about this problem? I got the same problem. My autocad exports to 3dsmax are realy crapy. STL format seems best but still... Had that problem before. But i'm not sure anymore about the command that solved it. Think it had something to do with SURFACE... something. Anything with NUM in it?... greets. SB Quote
