I am trying to learn Autocad. There are already a few templates I see listed when I hit the ‘create new drawing” icon. Is there an easy way to find out what parameters have been set and their values? What are the default settings for a drawing when one is created and no template is loaded?

Have a rundown with your CAD system variables under sysvdlg

careful though witht the values that are set there, most of the values set are not restricted to your current dwg file only but also your CAD settings already.

what specific values are you looking for?

I used Cadkey years ago and had to set variables like “world view”, units, dimension and note sizes, grid and snap sizes for common sized drawings. Autocad has some templates but I don’t know what the drawing limits are set at, or any other variables that make those templates unique.

I typed in sysvdig in the command line and it came back with, Unknown command "SYSVDIG". Press F1 for help.

You can easy to see and set drawing limit and units!

Autocad already have acad & acad3d (.dwt) they are base on imperial unit and acaddiso & acaddiso 3d(.dwt)they are base on metric unit. You can check

"format" "drawing limits" or type in cmd "limmin" always you will get (0,0) then

"limmax" ...you will see maximun drawing limit and you can change as you want...ps..nocturne00 said "sysvdlg " but you type "sysvdig".

:D I guess I should have typed it in all caps. thanks for clearing that.

Usually when you start a drawing, the first I always set up are the units.

use the UNITS command to get you started, next to have a step by step check would have to be OPTIONS.

then comes your Dimstyles, textstyles, Mleader styles, etc. save this all on your preferred template.
