Tiger Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 DWG is the main drawing file, where you do all your work. In your day to day business, it's pretty much the only file that you have to open. DWT is your template file. There you do all the settings and layers and stuff that you need/want in your drawings. You can save any DWG as a DWT in your template folder. When you use the command NEW to start a new drawing you get to choose the template you want to start with. BAK - you may notice that you have BAK-files in the same place as your DWG-files. These are copies of your DWGs, one save behind the DWG. Every time you save your DWG, your BAK-file is updated to the next-to-last save. This is your main safety net in case something goes wrong with your DWG. AC$ - this is a temporary save file that is located in a temp folder in your machine. This is what AutoCAD saves to when it does an automatic save. If AutoCAD closes normally then the AC$ is removed. Quote
