Hide ceilings Autocad MEP 2014

Hi everyone,

Just wondering if it is possible to hide (trim out) the T-bar ceiling grid, when it is under the actual ductwork.

The only way I've been able to accomplish this is with a workaround. The duct system, apply a Solid Hatch with a True Color of 255,255,255 (RGB "white"). Anything True Color overrides any CTB/STB plot style, and anything set to 255,255,255, or "white", works like a mask since printers ignore "white" (including PDF plots).

So while I'm working I have the hatch turned off in the Display Manager, then before I plot I turn it on to have the masking effect. This will not only "hide" the ceiling grid, but all objects that are beneath the duct.

Hope this helps. :)

Thanks Tanner,

This works well, the only problem is we use the hatch pattern to denote the internal insulation of the ductwork.

May have to go back to the old AutoCAD mask routine for ceilings.

the rest of AMEP is pretty awesome though

Have you considered changing your workflow? AutoCAD MEP already has visibility control options for Lining and Insulation, which can be tagged and/or scheduled instead of using hatch patterns. That way you get the best of both worlds.

But that would be the only way to do it as far as I can think of at this point. I'm getting rusty on my AutoCAD MEP intuitiveness nowadays, haha. ;)

No I didn't think about it, but I will now.

Thanks Tanner
