I give up. You post to the AutoCAD 3D Modelling forum but you want to do it in Solidworks. Strange that one very important word does not appear in your first post. This may have to go on my pet peeve list.:glare:

JD that's exactly what I'm after and I was actually going to draw this in Solid Works. Could you please humour me and explain that process with a bit more detail.

Attach your *.sldprt attempt here. (the process will be the same in any CAD program)

It almost seems like others here have spent more time on solving this problem than you. Attach your attempt here.

Could you kindly demonstrate the process using plain AutoCAD? I'd be interested in learning what I could have done better. Thank you. Or did you mean to say in any MCAD program. If that's the case then you can ignore my question. I'm just looking for clarification.

The AutoCAD process would be more similar to the SWx process than to the Inventor process since Inventor has a Coil tool that does two of the steps (Helix and Sweep) in one step.

The logical conclusion to this type of modeling effort would be a flat pattern. That's where AutoCAD will fall a little short.

Actually, he originally posted this in the Autocad Beginners section. I moved it to the Autocad 3D section but I guess he wants to do this in Solidworks now? Too bad he didn't mention this important bit of information in his original post. That would have saved everyone a lot of time and effort.
