Autocad 2014 centering viewports?

Hey guys,

It has been years since I have touched AutoCAD and I am creating a small drawing for work, i have a question about view ports in layouts looking into models.

So basically, if i have a drawing of a car, id want a viewport in my paperspace layout to focus on a wheel.

how can i get a paperspace viewport to center on the wheel from my model space?

I have tried changing the geometry options in the viewports properties, but that focuses on its position in the paperspace layout?

Welcome back, and to CADTutor. :)

Go to your Paperspace and click twice inside of an UNLOCKED viewport.

Once you have done that your cursor is actually in MODELSPACE, although you still see

a white paperspace type background.

Now you are free to zoom around and change your viewport scale with the scroll wheel on your mouse.

If you hold down the scrollwheel on the mouse, you will be able to PAN the view inside the viewport,

and thus position and size it as you want it to appear in your viewport. Set up your viewport view,

then LOCK your viewport scale, so that the view will not be subject to further change, unless unlocked.

You will see the little PADLOCK icon in the lower right quadrant of your screen, which will lock your viewport scale and view.

There are other options as well, such as setting a different VISUALSTYLE in a viewport, and VIEWPORT FREEZING

any layers which you might not want to be visible in that particular viewport.

The Center option of the ZOOM command is what you are looking for, "Z", [space], "C", [space], on your keyboard.
