CalebH Posted May 27, 2014 Posted May 27, 2014 AutoCAD 2014 LT is the software I am working on. Dell M4500, 4gigs ram, and a 2.67GHz i5 processor are my hardware. I know it's a long shot, as this problem is rather vague, but figured I'd post a question in case someone else has already had this problem. So, on to the problem... Whenever I attempt to do anything concerning a hyperlink, creating or editing, it causes AutoCAD to go into thinking mode, then it comes back as not responding, and will sit there for hours. If a document already has a hyperlink in it, I can click on it, and access the hyperlink without problems, but that is it. Kind of at a loss here on what to do. Any advice? Quote
ReMark Posted May 27, 2014 Posted May 27, 2014 Most likely an issue regarding the path. You working off a network? Quote
CalebH Posted May 27, 2014 Author Posted May 27, 2014 Most likely an issue regarding the path. You working off a network? Yes, I am. I'm trying to link objects within the document, not trying to link to the internet though. I've tried it in many different documents, with the same results. Quote
CalebH Posted May 27, 2014 Author Posted May 27, 2014 My company recently starting using a fairly strict group policy, might that have anything to do with it? Quote
ReMark Posted May 27, 2014 Posted May 27, 2014 Within what document? Yes, I realize you are not trying to link to the Internet, thus the reason I asked about being connected to a (company) network. Is AutoCAD Electrical a network version or standalone version? Quote
CalebH Posted May 27, 2014 Author Posted May 27, 2014 My apologies, I was unsure of how hyperlinks are commonly used in AutoCAD and assumed you thought I was talking of linking to a webpage. Also, I am unsure of your question about AutoCAD Electrical, and also unsure of how it pertains to this. I'm having trouble attaching the file, but will continue to try. Quote
CalebH Posted May 27, 2014 Author Posted May 27, 2014 [attachment=36826:name] I believe the file I am trying to hyperlink in is too large too upload, but hyperlinks won't work in this one either. BR-144 ICE Drawing.dwg Quote
ReMark Posted May 27, 2014 Posted May 27, 2014 Please post the FULL path of the misfiring hyperlink. Unfortunately I have a meeting to go to. I will check on this thread tomorrow morning. Quote
CalebH Posted May 27, 2014 Author Posted May 27, 2014 There is no misfiring hyperlink, I am simply unable to create hyperlinks at all. A colleague of mine inserted several hyperlinks into the drawing (that I am unable to upload) on his own computer as a test and they work fine, but when I attempt to edit them on mine, it does not work. No worries mate, I do believe I have found a solution over at the AutoDesk Forums. Will post back here when I confirm. Quote
CalebH Posted May 28, 2014 Author Posted May 28, 2014 Well I'm not sure that I found a solution, but I have found a workaround for now. Check the link below for the details. http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/CAD-Managers/HYPERLINK-command-Hangs/td-p/3897745 Quote
ReMark Posted May 28, 2014 Posted May 28, 2014 If your colleague can do it then there is nothing wrong with the network or with AutoCAD. It's YOUR computer setup that is somehow messed up. Have your IT department take a look. Quote

Have your IT department take a look. By "his own computer," I also meant, at his own home, on no network. The problem lies within the directory that AutoCAD goes to look for possible links if I'm understanding what I've read correctly. On some servers based on the name of that registry, AutoCAD gets confused, and gets stuck in an endless loop looking for the end folder, subsequently causing the crash. For now, disconnecting from the server works as a workaround, and when I have some more time, I'll look into putting in the right registry. Thanks for all your replies ReMark! Out of curiosity, are you also John Connor over on cadforum.cz? Quote
ReMark Posted May 28, 2014 Posted May 28, 2014 I still believe it is the way you are defining the path. Can you post a full copy of it? We have hyperlinks in our P&IDs that open spreadsheets and the drawing and the spreadsheets are on our company intranet and accessed via a DWG viewing program called Cadwizz. John Connor? Never heard of him. Quote
CalebH Posted May 28, 2014 Author Posted May 28, 2014 Under what settings do you find the path? Quote
ReMark Posted May 28, 2014 Posted May 28, 2014 Click on the hyperlinked block. Now go check your Properties palette. Do you see where it says Hyperlink under the heading General? Click on the Edit Hyperlink icon on the far right. I find it strange that you know about hyperlinks but don't know how to access their paths. What would you do if it had to be changed? Quote

Mate, you're clearly not understanding what I am saying. The problem does not lie within a hyperlink, the problem is creating hyperlinks. As soon as I launch the HYPERLINK command, or EDITHYPERLINK command the program crashes, rendering it impossible to get the path. Your question had me confused because I thought you understood that, and so I thought you were talking about some other sort of master path to do with hyperlinks that I had not encountered yet. Quote
ReMark Posted May 28, 2014 Posted May 28, 2014 Do a REPAIR and see if that fixes your hyperlink problem. Quote
CalebH Posted May 28, 2014 Author Posted May 28, 2014 Do a REPAIR and see if that fixes your hyperlink problem. REPAIR comes back as an unknown command. I am using LT. I've read about a different set of commands you can load, but have not done that yet. Is this one of them? Quote

Is this one of them? No, that is Repair, on the Add or Remove programs page in Windows Control Panel. To do that, you may need either your IT department or the install disk. Quote
ReMark Posted May 28, 2014 Posted May 28, 2014 The REPAIR option should be available to you via the Control Panel > Programs and Features. Quote
