How do I dimension a 3d model so that the text is visible in the view that I want it in. To clarify I am dimensioning the top view but it is not visible, it is only visible in the side view.

the dimms will only show up in XY and in the XY plane. You just need to change your view so how you are looking at your part to put some dimms on is XY

I think thats where the UCS View comes in. Say you're in SW iso view, u align your UCS to view and then do your dims or annotation.
