Vertical product question.

Hi all,

 

I've just been asked, what would be the best software AutoCAD wise

(Not vanilla) that could produce a section from a topographical

profile.

 

Any ideas?

Just to confirm i am right about needing a vertical product, there's no feautre like what i've described above in vanilla cad that i've somehow missed for the past 3 yrs?

Not easily, you could probably make a 3D surface and slice through it; more work than to do it the old fashioned way (draw alignment, pick off offsets and elevations)

There's a couple of lisps I've seen. Here's one

You can also run a 3rd party product like http://www.carlsonsw.com on top of vanilla AutoCAD.

I have a youtube video series on doing this with lisps and regular AutoCAD. Be sure to read the notes in the video description.

 

You can also cut profiles with SiteTopo, but only in straight lines. Using the lisps you can do them using any polyline. The only issue then is accuracy, especially at peaks and valley's of the profile.

 

There are many civil/suvey software packages that can achieve this, but one of the above mentioned methods are the cheapest.
