Cad64 Posted March 25, 2015 Posted March 25, 2015 (edited) 6. What is the green line top for? 7. The white bottom line for? It seems to be clipping things when I move it up/down. 8. Is there an tutorial that explains what i am doing with the upper icons? 9. What is the slice icon for? Did you check the link I provided in my first post? steven-g Posted March 25, 2015 Posted March 25, 2015 It's what legislates the (1) view source location and the (2) end direction to generate the desired view. So if you put the camera point in front of the white block, and set the target on the red block, wouldn't that stop the white block showing up (or does it just create the viewing direction). Quote
Cad64 Posted March 25, 2015 Posted March 25, 2015 So if you put the camera point in front of the white block, and set the target on the red block, wouldn't that stop the white block showing up (or does it just create the viewing direction). You could put the camera in front of the white block, which would eliminate the need for a clipping plane, but then your camera would probably be too close to the red block. The only way to get the desired camera view would be to either turn off the white blocks layer or use a clipping plane to remove it from view. Quote
muck Posted April 1, 2015 Author Posted April 1, 2015 I have tried the 3D Clip command within a view port. I go into the view port by picking the edge of the view port frame and then do my 3D Clipping as described and it looks good. When I exit the viewport space I and go back into paper space and loose my view port clipping changes. I would like to see my view port keep 3-D clipping changes. It might be a possible solution if I can keep my VP clipping changes. Any suggestions? Thank you, Quote
Cad64 Posted April 1, 2015 Posted April 1, 2015 I don't understand why you're losing the clipping changes? Maybe it's the procedure you're using? 1. Don't click on the viewport frame. Double click inside your viewport to activate model space through the viewport. 2. Set your clipping planes and then exit the clipping plane window. 3. Hit Enter and then double click outside your viewport frame and your clipping changes should remain. Quote
muck Posted April 2, 2015 Author Posted April 2, 2015 The 3 steps above do work but I would like to practice with it a little farther. Is this the preferred way of making elevation sections of is there some other way that companies use? Thank you, Quote
SLW210 Posted April 2, 2015 Posted April 2, 2015 You might look into the SOL commands. •SOLDRAW Generates profiles and sections in layout viewports created with SOLVIEW. •SOLPROF Creates 2D profile images of 3D solids for display in a layout viewport. •SOLVIEW Creates orthographic views, layers, and layout viewports automatically for 3D solids. And SECTIONPLANE •SECTIONPLANE Creates a section object that acts as a cutting plane through 3D objects. •SECTIONPLANETOBLOCK Saves selected section planes as 2D or 3D blocks. Quote
muck Posted April 2, 2015 Author Posted April 2, 2015 Back to the 3D Clip command When should I set my scale and lock my view port to keep my scale in the following 3 step procedure. 1. Don't click on the viewport frame. Double click inside your viewport to activate model space through the viewport. 2. Set your clipping planes and then exit the clipping plane window. 3. Hit Enter and then double click outside your viewport frame and your clipping changes should remain. I want to have true scales in my drawings. Thank you, Quote
muck Posted April 2, 2015 Author Posted April 2, 2015 Does the SQL commands & SECTIONPLANETOBLOCK keep up with model & Xref updates? I am working complex public 3-drawings in which other people from other departments are updating master model and X ref drawings. Thank you, Quote
muck Posted April 2, 2015 Author Posted April 2, 2015 Again, 3D Clip. I notice that when I do step 3 "3. Hit Enter and then double click outside your viewport frame and your clipping changes should remain. " that my mouse cursor will show an orbit symbol. It seems like something has locked up. If I hit escape I loose my port. Is there any solution to this? Thank you, Quote
Cad64 Posted April 2, 2015 Posted April 2, 2015 I'm not sure why you're having so much difficulty. Even if I hit Escape, my viewport still retains the clipping changes. Quote
Cad64 Posted April 2, 2015 Posted April 2, 2015 When should I set my scale and lock my view port to keep my scale in the following 3 step procedure. You can't run the 3DClip command in a locked viewport, so go ahead and set your viewport scale, then run through the 3DClip command, then lock your viewport afterwards. Or, run the 3DClip command, then set your viewport scale and lock the viewport. Either way works. Quote
