cnreader Posted February 28, 2007 Posted February 28, 2007 We creat a box in the viewport. if we map it, we have mapping all of its sides. how shall we map a pic on only one of its sides? for example, up side. and how shall we map the pic on its two sides, for example, up and down sides. etc? Quote
Ronrico19 Posted February 28, 2007 Posted February 28, 2007 There's no way to map just one side of a solid, but you should be able to explode your box, then apply materials to each individual face. If you want the whole object to be the same except for a face or two, then you could create a region over the face you want different and apply a material to that. Quote
yedan Posted February 28, 2007 Posted February 28, 2007 personally i wouldn't explode solid models if you want seperate facesi would use other methods such as the slice command, 2007 does support selection of several different faces but i don't think it was available in earlier versions, again i would personally use the slice command to sperate the individual faces. CromCruithne Posted February 28, 2007 Posted February 28, 2007 I'm not sure about ACAD 2000, but in newer versions, just hold down the control key when selecting and you can pick individual faces. Give that a try and see if it works. -Crom Quote

matramurena Posted February 28, 2007 Posted February 28, 2007 That's a great tip! Thanx a bunch, I will try that as well. It eliminates loads of tricky fumbling I do now...... Learning more and more.... Quote
CromCruithne Posted March 1, 2007 Posted March 1, 2007 This is new in AutoCAD 2007 Ah well, so many good ideas have to be thrown out just because they don't work. -Crom Quote
Ronrico19 Posted March 2, 2007 Posted March 2, 2007 I got a brainstorm today while mapping my house. I don't know if this will work in 2000 but it does work in 2005, which is promising. When you have a solid object, you can individually color each face. Either by the change color of face command (in a toolbar), or by subtracting an object of one color from an object of another color. Once you have a face that is different, then go into rmat, and there is an optoin for assigning materials by aci. From there it is the same as assigning by layer. I tried and it worked, so hopefully it work for others aswell. Quote
cnreader Posted March 5, 2007 Author Posted March 5, 2007 Thanks all for the new idea. I know only explore method when I do it. Quote
