For instance "L" for line or "PL" for polyline are "Shortcut keys". The commands will autofill in.

One or more Shortcut Keys will cause the command to autofill in the command line.

But you have to know the shortcut keys, so turn on Show Tool Tips, and turn on Show Shortcut Keys in Tool Tips, by going into Options >> Display tab and/or use the F1 key help file to look up the commands. You can also open up the CUI editor and navigate around to see what they are.
