AutoCAD resets config each time

Hi there,

I have a really weird problem:

Each time I launch AutoCAD 2009, it opens as if it were the first time I use it; with the welcome panel and default settings, no matter if I customized it before ... it's a bit tidious since I have to import every single time the profile cause it doesn't save my custom bars and configuration... :(

I have Windows Vista Ultimate ... this is happening since I reinstalled windows vista a few weeks ago ...

Any kind of help will be appreciatted, thanks. :)

My guess is that when you originally installed AutoCAD 2009 you imported your current profiles from a previous version and AutoCAD set up their directories in the |Files| tab of Options.

And when you reinstalled windows you basically wiped everything clean, therefore you didn't have that option available. So AutoCAD set its directory to the defaults.

Check your |Files| tab in Options and see how these directories match with your coworkers. My guess is they are either blank, or set to your local machine when they should be pulling from a network.

Wow that was a fast reply hehe thanks,

Actually I installed AutoCAD 2009 after I reinstalled windows vista (forgot that fact, sorry :P), before that I had 2008.

I checked the files tab in options, and all of them have different routes, to C:\Users\... and C:\Program Files\...

Why should they pull from a network ???

Thanks again for the answer.

They don't have to pull from a network, only if your company stores them there, for example a folder of materials or custom linetypes and hatches that a whole office uses. The important thing is that those paths are set to go to the appropriate folders, i.e. the ones you pull from when inserting your profiles each time. Compare the folder that opens by default before your navigate to your profile when you import it every time.

Mmm, seems the problem isn't in the files routes in options, everything's ok and there's no option for 'profile importing' in such routes :? , ... I've opened the profile.arg with notepad and realized it cahnges some Registry keys, so I tried uninstalling deleting absolutely everything, including registry ... installed, and still the same !! :reallymad: I can't understand how this can persist ......

I just realized that the compatibilty didn't fix that, it was the "run as administrator" check... even though, thanks!!!

Issue solved. :)

If you have Windows Vista, just right click and choose "Run as Administrator"

I had this problem and it drove me nuts for the longest time, my solution came by disabling windows auto updates, I have not had the problem since, I don't know why it causes this issue but I simply check and update once a month manuelly now.

also, if you continue having this problem save you profile, .cui, any lisps, .ctb files or anything else to a disk so you can quickly set things back the way you like it.
