khadden
I'm just starting with 3d. I've unioned some shapes together and have to make a hole though the top of the object and on the side. I used the cylinder to cut a hole through the top, but can't figure out how to go into the side of the shape as the cylinder seems to want to go only up and down - not side to side. How can I do this? Thanks!
Cad64
After you create the cylinder, rotate it with the 3DROTATE command? Either that, or rotate your UCS and then create the cylinder.
khadden
Thanks - I think I need to work on the UCS a lot more! I appreciate the help
joemaddigotz
This is the first thread open closest to my situation so I wanted to start here, gather around experts! I need your assistance with creating a cylinder and bending it in the end. Almost a U shaped peice of metal is what I am replicating 5/8" diameter with two bends.... U shaped one end is 11" and the other is 7" I am definatly new to the 3D realm of drawing in CAD. Hope after I post I can keep searching to look for answers. Thanks
rgarjr
When you want to bend a cyl, you just simply draw a circle and a path that the circle can be extruded or swept, or even lofted with.
joemaddigotz
When you want to bend a cyl, you just simply draw a circle and a path that the circle can be extruded or swept with. Where am I drawing this circle? I am trying different angles. Do I use the same dimension of the circle as my cylinder? Is that path a line with a radius in it as I read in the thread? Please respond.
joemaddigotz
I am trying this extrude command to no prevail... Gosh - What am I missing... am I not understanding the extrude command?
Cad64
What version of Autocad are you using?
joemaddigotz
AutoCAD 2006 I posted in another thread - am I maybe using the wrong View? I see that this is not the only thread on the subject and have been reading them. I am missing something here.. Something maybe over-my-head that I do not understand. Cad64
Ok, then the SWEEP and LOFT commands are not available for you. You will have to EXTRUDE a circle along a path in order to create your shape. Take a look at this tutorial: http://www.we-r-here.com/cad/tutorials/level_3/3-7a.htm
joemaddigotz
Alright. I am studying this tutorial.
joemaddigotz
The first thing I notice is after the polyline I draw.. My circle is showing up not as a flat line but as a circle... Something is not correct with my view? I do not have ROTATE3D -- oh boy - wait a minute....
joemaddigotz
LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! hold on almost got it I think da*n your good Cad64 .. da*n your good!@ I would kiss you - I did it. Cad64
Glad you got it figured out, but I'll pass on the kiss. Check out the video tutorials at Cadclips.com. They have some for 2006 3D.
joemaddigotz
Glad you got it figured out, but I'll pass on the kiss. Check out the video tutorials at Cadclips.com. They have some for 2006 3D. No kiss - lol what if I was a gorgeous blonde? LOL which I am not though, so I can understand the pass hahahaha HOWEVER, Let me check and see if we can take this one step further Cad64. At the end of my extruded circle "pipe" now - I want to come OUT towards me - does that make sense? I created this U bar and now at the right upper end of the U I want to come out toward the screen....
Cad64
That will require you to rotate your UCS 90 degrees and then create an arc at the end of your pipe. Then you can create another circle and Extrude along that path. Then you should be able to Union the two pieces together. Check out the tutorials at that site I linked to previously. I think they have some videos that cover what you're trying to do.
