Removing an attribute globally

I'm using ACAD 2007 and would like to remove an attribute that is attached (not in) one of the blocks. And since there are about a thousand of them I would like to have them update globally without having to do it manually.

If I double click on the attribute, it and the block highlights and the advanced attribute editor launches. (therefore I assume that it is actually an attribute). This seems to be the only tool that actually recognizes it at all, never mind as an attribute.

If I use the block editor, there is no attribute.

The Block Attribute manager doesn't recognize it as a block with an attribute.

I tried the Replace block with another block express tool, and the attribute stayed and is now attached to the new block.

This isn't making any sense to me and I'm going crazy.

I should add that I'm not the one who created it, so I have no idea how this was done.

Can anyone help?

it could be that the attribute has already been removed but the block reference hassn't been updated. Type either ATTSYNC or BATTMAN and follow the instructions.

it just tells me that "The selected block has no attributes"

that sounds like ALL the attributes have already been deleted. Have you tried both ATTSYNC (my preferred method) and BATTMAN. If neither of them work I'm afraid I'm out of my depth. You may need to resort to LISP to go deeper.

Yeah, I've tried both. Thanks for trying though!

I don't have AutoCAD at home but I think I know what has happened. The attribute has already been removed but the evidence hasn't. Unfortunately I don't know a way round without trying.

It may be worth trying to add an attribute to your existing block and ATTSYNC that. That will update all your existing blocks. THEN you may be able to repeat the process to delete it - but I don't hold out much hope. I think once you redefine your block to not have attributes you won't be able to ATTSYNC it.

You are a genius!! I added an attribute to the block with the same tag as the non-attribute, did a sync and it was tricked into thinking it was the old one! I then deleted it and did another sync and it's actually gone!

I've been struggling with this for 2 days, I feel so much better now.

Thanks!!!!
