How to delete layers no longer in use

Recommended Posts

How do I delete layers in properties manager that I no longer use? As the list is getting too long.

AutoCAD 2006

Thank you,

John

If there's nothing on the layers, you could use the PURGE command to get rid of them.

By the way, I renamed your thread title to something more descriptive.

If there are things referencing the layers you want to kill, and you don't want to take the time to physically move then, then you can use LAYMRG to "Merge" the entities on the offending layer onto another layer. LAYMRG will delete the specified source layer after forcing the entities to the specified target layer.

Well, You can add, delete and rename layers and change their properties with the help of layer properties.

Deletes selected layers. The following layers cannot be deleted:

  • Layers 0 and Defpoints
  • Layers containing objects, including objects in block definitions
  • The current layer
  • Layers used in an external reference
  • Layers in a partially opened drawing (Not applicable to AutoCAD LT.)
And also be careful about deleting layers if you are working on a drawing in a shared project or one based on a set of layering standards.
