Trouble editing splines

Recommended Posts

Hello, I  have traced two curves using  spline, as shown in the attached.

The curved lines seem to be continuous and do not appear  to be able to be split into different lengths. For example, I  was not happy with the curvature of the top half of left hand curve, so I want to replace it by  offsetting the top half of the right curve curve, but cannot do this. I  was then going to rotate the replacement curve from the top to joint up with the 33,5mm width on the left curve.

The other problem is that the curve lines do not seem to intersect when crossed by a straight line. As a result I  cannot seem to trim any of the curved lines or the straight line.

These two problems are shown clearly on the drawings attached

Hoping someone can show me where I am going wrong

Thanks  Dadgad. I  downloaded and opened OK on my AutoCAD 2018.

try grip stretching your spline with a crossing window selection.

I'm sorry, but I  don't know what that means

I am using Autocad 2016, perhaps if you saved it as 2013?

This is the message I get.

You might try adding some more points to the spline as you create it, which makes it easier to reshape after the fact with the STRETCH command, by

selecting the appropriate grips with a crossing selection window.

Thanks for this response, SLW210. I  don't know what I  did wrong, but I  can now trim the lines shown on the dxf file.  Sorry about that.

PS Edit. I  have gone back into the drawing, entered the command  TR /Enter, and find that I cannot trim any lines. If I  first select the straight line, then select Trim /Enter, then I  can trim the curved lines. What is the correct process please?

I  chose splines as a way to trace a picture that I imported into AutoCAD 2018. It is the only way I know, so I  am open to suggestions.  I  wanted the curves to be as smooth as possible as the work was going to be fed to a CNC machine, and I  certainly didn't want any faceted  curves which I am told by CNC guys that  polylines can produce.

Can you please tell me how you were able to offset the top part of the right hand curve?  It is one continuous line of splines on the drawing

You can use the latest DWG TrueView to open it and convert.

I can open a DXF with DWG TrueView, but how do you then convert a DXF? My version only will convert DWG files.

I was referring to my .dwg, I forgot to save it down.

I converted to 2000 version.
