how do you create grass ??

Hello, Does anyone know how to create grass in 3ds max, I can do it in small scales and small planes, but when i need to do it on a large scale it does not work,I tried a few different methods, that work to some degree on small scale, but I get lost when I need to apply a UVW map to my plane??, for large scale, anybody any ideas how to approach it,

Yes, because bitmaps don't always look that great, especially if you get close up. Displacement maps look pretty good, but they increase render times substantially. Same problem with the hair and fur modifier. I'm currently working with a program called Vue, which creates really great looking landscapes, but I'm still struggling with long render times.
