Danz Posted February 16, 2009 Posted February 16, 2009 Hi all, a relatively beginner at using Autocad. All the files I have received to work on so far have been straight forward, i receive the file and it is drawn in model space using millimeters for the units. However, i have just received my latest file and there is nothing in model space only in paper, the drawing has been blocked together and put onto one layer. I thought it might be a simple case of copy and pasting the whole drawing into model space and away i go, i did this however all the drawing scales are wrong. Is it possible to convert the drawing in model space so it works in my usual drawing units being 1 unit = 1 mm? Thanks Danny Quote
dbroada Posted February 16, 2009 Posted February 16, 2009 you need to scale your new drawing using the REFERENCE option. For this to work you NEED to know one dimension already. Quote
Danz Posted February 16, 2009 Author Posted February 16, 2009 Thanks dbroada, will boot up the computer now and give it a go. Should i be exploding the whole drawing before using the Reference command? There are measurements on there that were blocked in the original drawing so I should be able to use those as my confirmed measurement. Will post once I have tried it, fingers crossed Quote
dbroada Posted February 16, 2009 Posted February 16, 2009 I would copy everything into ModelSpace. Scale the whole thing. Chose your base point at the end of a known length, then answer R when asked for the scale. Clisk 2 points and type the distance you want it to be. After that explode or whatever. If its good enough to use there may not be a need to explode. Quote
Tiger Posted February 16, 2009 Posted February 16, 2009 Try the command CHSPACE - it copies from Paper Space to Model Space and scales accordingly (according to help anyway) Quote
Danz Posted February 16, 2009 Author Posted February 16, 2009 Thank you very much, the SCALE and R method worked a treat, will have to remember that one as im sure it will come up again. Cheers The CHSPACE command came up as unknown, I am only using 2006 LT so not sure if that was one of the options that was left out or wether it is only available in a newer version. 2009 version is on order, due this week so look forward to seeing if there are any diferences. Thanks again for all your help Danny Quote
Tiger Posted February 16, 2009 Posted February 16, 2009 Ah yes, CHSPACE was still part of the Express tools in 2006, so not available in LT unfortunatly - think it became a standard command in 2008. Quote
