starting with an aerial photo

I want to use CAD to mark up maps with lines and polygons but I want to start with an aerial photo.

How can I import an aerial photo such as a img., jpeg. or other basic picture into CAD?

Once the drawing is imported, I want to use known distance lines to assign a scale to the drawing.

I would like to use this on the AutoDesk Design Review Free version but if it is not possible, I think I have a 2002 CAD I can install.

Thanks

Brian

I don't believe you could do it with Design Review.

In AutoCAD you just type in IMAGE and it will bring up the dialog to attach the image.

You can open raster images in Design Review, and you can mark on top of them, etc. But ARD is not really an editing tool, it's just a markup tool.

If I understand correctly: I can mark-up the image but not use it as a scaleable base map that I can edit? That would be OK for some things I do but how do I import the image into ARD? I don't see an "image" box that would be found in the true ACAD program.

Thanks

If AutoCAD is installed type in IMAGE. If it doesn't bring up a dialog then you must be using AutoCAD LT which will certainly hinder your efforts.

I wasn't clear in my last e-mail. I understand the ACAD procedure. I do not have it installed because it is an old disk, 2002, and I don't know if it will work. So I am trying to see if I can do what I need to with A-Design (free). I was asking rkmcswain on how I can import IMG into ACAD-design and also if I can scale the image in A-design. Right now, all I need to do is put lines on top of an aerial photo and make it to scale.

Can I do this? If not, I will give a shot at installing ACAD and follow the IMG instructions.
