jasonschogen Posted October 28, 2022 Posted October 28, 2022 Hello everybody, I hope this is the right place to post this: Is a laptop with a Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-8665U CPU @ 1.90GHz 2.11 GHz. RAM: 24,0 GB, and a 64-bit operating system sufficent enough to run AutoCAD smothly? (the laptop is a ThinkPad from Lenovo) I’m an interior designer who uses AutoCAD to draw 2D floor plans of buildings. Since my old laptop is starting to make some problems I am looking for a new one. A friend of mine has a laptop he would give me with a Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-8665U CPU @ 1.90GHz 2.11 GHz. RAM: 24,0 GB, and a 64-bit operating system. I did some research reguarding the System requirements for AutoCAD but laptops are not my field of expertise. So a few extra opinions would be great if it‘s reasonable or if I should rather invest in a different laptop. I thank you very much in advance! Quote
Cad64 Posted October 28, 2022 Posted October 28, 2022 According to the Autocad 2023 system requirements, your processor speed should be 2.5 GHz, at a minimum, but if you're going to be doing 3D work, 3.0 GHz would be better, and you will need to make sure you're running .NET Framework version 4.8 or later. Also, if you're going to be doing 3D work, you should have a display card that is DirectX 12 compatible. I'm not a laptop guy either, but this page has several to choose from: https://www.thesourcecad.com/best-laptop-autocad/ Quote
BIGAL Posted October 29, 2022 Posted October 29, 2022 (edited) This is mine a Acer Nitro 5 use it every day was doing civil road design speed was fine. The newer I7 should be even better note most only come with 8gb memory buy with 16gb or get added to a older one. The 16gb memory can be a limit on some laptops. Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-8750H CPU @ 2.20GHz, 2208 Mhz, 6 Core(s), 12 Logical Processor(s) Name NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 plus onboard intel Size 118.12 GB SSD Size 931.51 GB Hard drive 16GB memory Houses Edited October 29, 2022 by BIGAL Quote

However, if you plan on working with more complex designs or 3D modeling, you may want a laptop with a more powerful processor and a dedicated graphics card. Quote
BIGAL Posted May 1 Posted May 1 I am writing this on a laptop I7 8750H 16Gb SSD Nvidia graphics+ Intel. Seems fast enough, look at image above, I to would look at the laptop with a dedicated graphics card, have had problems with desktops and Intel graphics. If the laptop does not have a SSD drive it would be worthwhile replacing it they are not expensive and make a huge speed difference. I am looking at replacing mine with a I9 laptop Nividia graphics.
