Insener07 Posted March 10, 2009 Author Share Posted March 10, 2009 Well I'm not using hsbCAD. I'm collecting knowledge about this program so one day I can impress with it my boss. I have some questions: First floors and ceilings. Is it possible to define your own type of floors and ceilings. For example. Every time when i draw a new floor or ceiling element i have sort of a defined floor which i can use again and again. Second the roof stuff. I design prefabricated timber structure. And the roof panels are also prefabricated. Is it possible to design roof as a panel for prefabricated industry. Thank you very much! This forum does not condone the use of unliscensed software in any way, shape, or form. As for your other question, we don't deal with prefab panels, but I know that hsbCAD does have the ability to use SIPs, These tools could then likely be used for roofs/floors. We happen to have someone on staff who writes TSLs (Tool Script Language, basically C+ code) to automate many of the features we regularly use. manhattan Posted March 10, 2009 Share Posted March 10, 2009 i would greatly doubt theres an illegal copy of hsb since afaik most if not all cad plugins require a hardware dongle key to make them work, purely to prevent piracy MBA and i would expect all other timber packages allow you to set standard elements for all types of panel. As for prefabricated roofs, other than flat roofs (which work the same as a floor panel), ive never come across prefab units. We used to specify trusses and then provide necessary sarking, cladding, fascias & soffits in a cutting list to be provided loose. I worked for the uk's largest prefab timber frame manufacturer, so i would expect this method to be standard across the board. Other countries with more advanced timber systems may well use prefab panels, the stuff done by huff and various other manufacturers in germany, finland etc its miles ahead of what is produced in the uk. EDIT: if you really wanted to impress your boss look into Mitek's woodengine, also very good. avoid MBA, or consultec as i believe it is now called, its really very dated. The output is a shop figure of a wall which can be used in prefabricated manufacturing. So i was only wondering if this is possible with other parts of a house as well. Thanks! manhattan Posted March 11, 2009 Share Posted March 11, 2009 there are 2 main components of pre-fabricated timber buildings, wall panels and floor panels (or cassettes). As i said before flat roofs are basically the same as floor cassettes. All other parts such as sole plates, headbinders, locating plates and much else is generally sent loose. There are obviously many variations of said panels, the materials, stud centres, cladding, sheathing, pitch etc. but they can largely be categorised into walls and floors. All timber frame CAD packages (hsb, woodengine, consultec etc.) can produce both wall and floor panels in numerous varieties, no doubt some can even specify trusses though many organisations use specialist packages for this. The output of such packages are as you say: technical drawings with a cutting list / bill of materials for the workshop workers to follow or even files for an automated production line to follow. Currently we are using one modeling software Vertex. It is for timber structure design.
