How to set a password for a STEP file created within SolidWorks?

Hi All,

Am new here. A quick q: I need to set a file-open password when saving my native SolidWorks file as a STEP file. My SolidWorks is 2023 Professional. Basically, I need to hand over the STEP file to an external associate and I need to set the password to allow file open only by legit users. I could not readily see how to set the password from within SW *while* creating the STEP file. Any suggestions?

I don't use Solidworks, so maybe someone else would have a better idea, but what about putting the STEP file inside a password protected zip file?

Well, Cad64, that is always a solution but then, once the zip file is unzipped, the STEP file then stays in the recipient's folder unprotected (without any password protection). I want to avoid this situation and, hence, looking for password-protecting the STEP file itself, if feasible.

Any method is non-secure once in the hands of the recipient, ZIP with protection, cloud service, even if if you could password protect the STEP, once open they can do with it as they please.

Maybe a 3D PDF?

A well worded contract of non-copy/disclosure, etc. (no matter how you try to secure it).

Protect access of SolidWorks CAD Files (sealpath.com)  claims to have a solution.

4 Fast Ways to Protect Your SolidWorks Data - SolidSmack has a few tips, not sure if you can use those or not.
