Hi, I am using AutoCAD 2004 and am trying to a) import a photo of a football stadium and its video screen, then b) use AutoCAD to draw the framework of a new larger Video Screen to scale based on this photo (knowing the dimensions of the existing video screen), then c) import back into Photoshop to edit the new video screen and add special effects etc. to it.

Is this possible? I have searched the forums and haven't found the right answer yet... Thank you for your help!

I would like to just use Photoshop, but I don't believe I can be accurate enough. For Example, if there is an existing video screen that is 45'-6" wide by 30'-4" tall and I need to draw a new screen that is 60' wide and 40' tall, I need to be able to precisely draw the new screen to scale. I've use AutoCAD for drawing up house plans, and it seems that AutoCAD is the program of choice for this type of drawing. What do you think? Thanks for the reply!

You can draw lines in Illustrator to a certain length but not sure about printing to scale. But I just opened a autocad 2009 file in illustrator and then exported it as a .psd file. So thats the way I just found by myself so I hope it helps.

Yes that does help for getting the file into Photoshop, but the main concern I have is needing to actually accurately draw on top of the photo while it is in AutoCAD, then I can export to Illustrator/Photoshop. Thank you for your help!

I can't speak to Photoshop (photoshop newbie :)) but you could do this:

  1. Draw a rectangle (full scale) the size of the existing screen
  2. Bring the photo in (IMAGEATTACH)
  3. Use ALIGN to match the photo to the rectangle you drew, the photo will be pretty close to scale
  4. Then you can draw the proposed work relative to the photo.

Hope that helps.

That's a good idea. I'll try that soon! I would still appreciate any more thoughts/ideas. Thanks!
