Hi guys,

I have set up some Tool Palettes on my system which I want everyone to use as standard. At the moment I have just exported them onto a location on the server and each user has imported them.

Is there a way I can set this up so that whenever a user boots up autocad the tool palettes will automatically load the latest palettes as they are likely to change on a weekly basis. At the moment, whenever we add a block to the palettes we have to get users to import the latest palettes each time.

Hope that makes sense.

Any ideas?

Ste

Are all the users using the same version of CAD; are any users using LT ?

Doesn't it work with just adding the path to were the toolpalettes are located on the server in the 'Tool Palettes File Locations' part of the tab 'Files' in 'Options' dialog box?

Here is one of a lot of threads on this topic

If you go to search and you use "Network Tool Palettes" for your search word. Hope this helps.

Yes it does, but would you really want to do this by either going to each users machine and setting it up for them; or even relying on the user to set it up for themselves by following instructions ?

I know I wouldn't.

I use .ATC tool pallete files and set them to read only, I am the only one that can edit them. I do this because It works with the six different CADs that everyone is using here and it works for me.

This link will help a little more

set everyone's toolpalette path to the directory on the network and make sure you have IT remove write privileges for the tool palettes folder from everyone, except you.

with this method, anytime you make a change, it will automatically update everyone's machine.

We do this in our department just like alanjt says above. It works very well. I keep a "tool palette" folder on the network. All the guys toolpalette path points to this folder (options - files - tool palettes file locations). I set the folder as "read only". You will see a padlock in the lower right hand corner of the palette which indicates the protected status.

When you maintain the palette (add to or remove from), you will need to unprotect the directory temporarily while you export the new items to the folder. I hope this helps.

I'd love to know how to achieve this without visiting every machine that is running AutoCAD; and bearing in mind that some users are using LT, so trying to use *_TOOLPALETTEPATH is a no-no.

Are you sure that "_TOOLPALETTEPATH" doesn't work ?

The reason I ask is because it works for me and I'm using 2008 LT.

That's what the IT department is for! Our IT dept needs something to do instead of just telling everyone to reboot!!

Some people are running 2005 LT and it doesn't work on that.

Trying to find a solution which will work for everyone seems impossible, considering we are using pretty much every different version of AutoCAD and LT available since the year 2002 or thereabouts.

So yep, *_TOOLPALETTEPATH will not work for everyone.

You ever try to use .atc files in LT?

Yes, that's what I normally use - but you still need to specify the location of where they are stored.

Hi, thanks for your reply. Just catching up with this thread but yes all users are using the same version of cad. No one is using LT.

Thanks for your help. I've successfully set the tool palettes up over the server.

Next time I will use the search function! Thanks again for your help.

Hi guys, I'm back again! (sorry!)

Thanks to your help on here I have now set up our tool palettes in a common location and set everyone's machine up accordingly. I have set up palette groups as there are a lot of tabs to select blocks from. Is there a quicker way to toggle through these palette groups without having to go to 'assist-customize-tool palettes and right clicking the groups and right clicking 'set current' ?

You should open your tool palette window (ctr + 3) or click the toolpalette icon. This would be much easier.

You can keep this window open if you wish. It has a setting to "hide" the palette and it will re-appear when you hover over it.
