Just a hunch, but perhaps your RAM cant handle it, or is falling short. a 4GB RAM on a 32bit winxp only reads about 3.6-3.7GB total physical memory, minus all operating files on the processes seen in the task manager, including memory taken by acad 2009 or microstation w/c requires a lot of memory when a file is running,,, especially a 50MB file(w/c is a very large file, coz i limit my file sizes only up to 10MB then try to break it down).

Just to check, while doing your conversion try to check your task manager under performance>memory.

if its falling above 100%, expect it to crash.
