3D Site Elements

I apologize if this is posted elsewhere, I've been searching all over this site and can't find what I'm looking for. All the posts keep referring back to this thread, but this isn't really what I need to do.

I am working on Renderings to function as sight-line studies for proposed developments within my company. I have a grading plan with topography that I can project to the correct Z elevation and drape the entire site, creating flat building pads where I will place 3D building models. This seems to be the most efficient way to do this.

My question is this:

What is the easiest way to show differences between roads, parking islands, sidewalks, etc. after draping all the topography?

Is there a better way to do this? It seems the same dilemna would exist using the edgesurf or loft commands after the 3D topography is created? Is there a way to warp my plan on to the 3D surface and then extrude pavement, walks, etc. up a few inches so they show up in a rendering and using grass on the 3D topo elsewhere?

My thought is that I could go back and limit my topo to the roads, drape only those, and move them to be incrementally higher than the topo so they would show up in a rendering...repeating this step for islands & sidewalks.

Any ideas, software recommendations, methods, processes, etc. would be great.

I'm currently on Architecture 2009.

Thanks.

Mark
