Hello,

I'm trying to copy/paste a drawing from one file to another :

- Select all the objects

- Press copy

- Go to other file

- Press paste

- nothing happens

What could be the problem?

What versions of drawing files are you trying to copy from and paste into ?

are you sure that nothing happens? DO you copy with basepoint? Try a copy with basepoint (and paste with basepoint) instead.

Do a Zoom Extens onm your file as well, it might be pasteing somewhere off the screen.

Did you get this drawing from someone else?

There must be something wrong with your mns file. What is that? I can't tell. Try the INSERT command as a workaround.

I did indeed get the first file from someone else and yes I think it was made with a newer version of autocad then the one I have installed.

Could that be a problem?

If it was a newer version you wouldn't be able to open it? Unless it had been saved down in which case you shouldn't have a problem anyway.

I've experienced the same thing in the past. This was due to either copying from a outside vendor drawing or a drawing that had the vendor drawing inserted into it. Most of the time it was due to dimensions and splines and had to copy without selecting these.

Here's a list of things I try, and tell others to try.

- Audit command in both drawings

- Copy without selecting any dimensions

- If Ctrl-C copy doesn't work, try selecting it from the drop down menu.

- Try both Ctrl-C and Ctrl-Shift-C (copy with insertion point)

- When pasting try both Ctrl-V and Ctrl-Shift-V (Past as block with insertion point)

- WBLOCK the entities and insert into second drawing

- save the drawing as a dxf then open the dxf and save it back as a drawing

(be cautious of any linked data when using this method)

good luck!

one other thing is and i think im right in saying this ? (correct me if im wrong)

If what ever you copied has the same layer name as the layer whats already in your drawing and its layer is turned off it wont show up in your drawing

Posted

same thing if that layer is frozen

If the drawing was done originally in 2007 and saved down to 2000 file format it is a known bug. Confirm the version the drawing was done with and get back to us. There is a fix for the problem.

The simplest way of overcoming this bug is to first start a new drawing from scratch. Then insert and explode the offending drawing into it. This works for me and I am using r2000. :D

How do you mean, insert and explode then?

I did the following without any luck :

1) start new project

2) Open converted file from 2007 -> 2000 version

3) select the part I want to copy

4) explode everything

5) select the part again

6) copy

7) paste into new project

Nothing happens :(

PS : I also tried the audit command

I think part 2) needs to be INSERT instead of OPEN?
