It sounds so simple, doesn't it? Points and point labels (and a lot of other objects) have a default style. I would like to edit that style or make a copy of it or both.

You can open a dialog box to "Edit Label Style Defaults" for points. There are multiple ways to get there. The problem is, the properties you can change in that dialog include everything except the contents. That's what I need to change: just take out one of the components.

Without the ability to see the components of that label, I can't duplicate them in another style. For some reason I can't copy the <default> style, either.

Is there some simple mechanism that I'm overlooking? Or is this one of those simple tasks that is impossible in Civil 3D?

I am still trying to get my Civ3d degree in "Style making and use". 🤣

Making style's is just so hard, you should see a graphic of what you have included in the style. Not sure why you can not copy an existing style then edit it.

...

The problem is that the <default> style is a different animal. You can't copy it. You can't examine the components to duplicate them. I can create/copy another label style, and I can edit that one normally, but I don't know how to define the components without knowing what's in the original <default>.

I agree, styles are hard to define. They're even harder to manage, unless you spend some time planning how to use them--and you stick to your plan. But who does that?

I know when we went to CIV3D it took a lot of customisation = lots of time. There is stuff in CIV3d that is just so hard to make like the label styles.

You can export the description keys to Excel and make new ones copying details from existing, there is no import function in CIV3D, so I wrote one.

Another this I made was to handle displaying surfaces, having to go to the Toolspace all the time was a pain so made a tool bar and lisp to handel the surface options, yes a version for Bricscad Civil. It handles multiple surfaces in a dwg.

Have a few more lisps for day to day tasks with CIV3D, just ask. The other thing you can do is make a custom menu but have CIV3D commands in it, we used Drafting workspace so the extra menu meant we did not have to change workspaces for often used CIV3D commands

There is a CIV3D forum at forums/autodesk. But get better advice here.
