Do you model the full part or build it in separate solids?

For complex parts, I’ve seen people use one continuous solid, while others create several simple solids and combine them later.

 

I find separate solids easier to modify when the design is still changing.

 

How do you normally approach complex 3D parts — one solid from the start or several smaller solids?
