lulumara Posted September 24, 2009 Posted September 24, 2009 Hi need help in cutting the the edge of a lug of a watch , any command or procedure to cut this face in triangle shape from bigger face to zero face ? I attached the drawing , which really makes my head spinning so I need your expert guy like SHIFT , need your help I know it's kinda embarassing but need to finish it I 've been working this for more than 5 days .So please help??? Sorry the pic is rotated. Oh the lug goes downward as a very steep one. Quote
lulumara Posted September 24, 2009 Author Posted September 24, 2009 I rotated it to see in right way.Sorry for inconvenients. Quote
shift1313 Posted September 24, 2009 Posted September 24, 2009 so i see you have a scan there. is the part you are trying to cut a surface or a solid? You can always use surfaces to split or trim solids or other surfaces but im having trouble seeing if you are working with a flat piece or you actually have a 3d object which you need this curve to wrap around(ie we are only looking at a side view). Quote
shift1313 Posted September 24, 2009 Posted September 24, 2009 just in case i dont get back on here for a bit. If you only need to cut this shape in a planar manner( meaning you can just extrude it). draw that triangle in 2d, create an Extruded surface with it that goes through your part and use Cut With Surface. The direction your arrow is pointing will be the direction that is removed. Quote
lulumara Posted September 24, 2009 Author Posted September 24, 2009 The object is a 3D solid not a flat piece, it's a front view or let's say side view. I did drawn a triangle on front plane of the lug extruded cut but doesn't show right. then i draw a triangle again at top of the lug but can't show the right cut. I did also use chamfer but it cuts the wrong cut. I was uploading the drawing it doesn't accept slprt to show you the real drawing. I did also cut with trim surface but command doesn't accept it?? I will try the cut with surface might work I hope so. Oh there's a steep slope from front of the lug to the top of the lug which makes it really hard to cut??? Quote
lulumara Posted September 24, 2009 Author Posted September 24, 2009 Here's the preliminary drawing in front view. Quote
shift1313 Posted September 24, 2009 Posted September 24, 2009 in your folder right click on your .sldprt file and send to> zip. once its a zip file you should be able to upload it. How are you determining the cut to make? Quote
shift1313 Posted September 24, 2009 Posted September 24, 2009 i was thinking about it a little and i think i would create those ears as a loft operation. Then maybe apply a variable fillet or chamfer to that edge. what is this for? Quote
lulumara Posted September 24, 2009 Author Posted September 24, 2009 Hi Matt thanks for your help kinda my head was spinning what to do. I did tried loft cut but doesn't work for me then I used the sweep cut it works but still not straight if you look at front view. I did rt clicked and winzip and rar but it have a 604 kb of files which exceed of 250 kb allowable in the forum?? Someone extra work for me but kinda very small charge than nothing. Quote
shift1313 Posted September 24, 2009 Posted September 24, 2009 how was that piece originally created? Did you draw the main body of the watch first then add the strap holders? If you want to sent me a PM ill give you my email address and you can send me an email with the zip file in it. edit. also this should be an assembly file, if you just zip and attach the main body of the watch that should be under the file size. Quote
lulumara Posted September 24, 2009 Author Posted September 24, 2009 There's no strap holder just the main body of the watch. It's about a 1Mb plus of files. I did a 2d and extruded and cut extruded to make a curve of the body of watch, then lots of chamfer and fillet. Quote
shift1313 Posted September 24, 2009 Posted September 24, 2009 after seeing your post this morning i drew a watch body. The way i attacked it was to draw the main part of the body using a revolve operation. Then a loft for one of the "ears" followed by a trim using a revolved surface. is that drawing all you have to go off or do you have the actual watch? maybe a picture? I would minimize the amounts of chamfers/fillets used to create the shape. You want to create it using your lofts and then use surfaces to trim things up. You can draw 1 ear then mirror it about one plane, then mirror both of those(including any fillets or holes etc) about the other plane. does this make sense? Quote
lulumara Posted September 25, 2009 Author Posted September 25, 2009 I'll try that suggestion of yours, the above preliminary drawing that I attached is the main drawing nothing more just the triangle cut that I need to put it in. Quote
lulumara Posted September 25, 2009 Author Posted September 25, 2009 I did what you said but it doesn't work for me , so I will sticked onto my other drawing but any ideas to cut the triangle . I was using surface with trim but doesn't work . Quote
shift1313 Posted September 25, 2009 Posted September 25, 2009 i pm'd you my email yesterday. If you can email me the file and i will play with it. Quote
shift1313 Posted September 25, 2009 Posted September 25, 2009 I drew it this morning using a revolved main body and a loft. First I did it using loft surfaces. the picture below is a lofted solid. It would be best to have a starting and ending planar sketch and then a projected sketch on the watch where you want the loft to hit. Quote
lulumara Posted September 25, 2009 Author Posted September 25, 2009 Hi Matt suppose to be the lug or the ear must be downward steep sloping I had attached a pic here the second one that steep sloping so when I did my cutting triangle it will not go thru like yours. Quote
shift1313 Posted September 25, 2009 Posted September 25, 2009 i only had the one view to go off of with the drawing i made but this is how the side view ended up. I got your file. I see there are a lot of fillets and chamfers on the part. Do you have a picture of the actual watch besides the one you posted in your first post? Quote
lulumara Posted September 25, 2009 Author Posted September 25, 2009 That's the almost final drawing, I'll send you some pics but different pics. Quote
