fle
Having a problem trying to get acad11 to close. I tried using the menu, toolbar, and command line to no avail. SDI is set to 0. Do I need to run the repair?
SAFeSTeR
Have you tried manually ending the process through windows task manager?
ReMark
Maybe AutoCAD locked up for some reason. Are you working on a standalone workstation or are you connected to a network?
fle
My acad is not locked up and is otherwise fully functional. The Windows task manager will end the program, and is the only way I can get out of acad.
ReMark
And this is the first time this has ever happened? Have you shut down the computer entirely, rebooted, started AutoCAD, opened and then tried to close the same drawing?
fle
I just restarted and existed the program with no problem. I should clarify that the problem occurs when acad has been running an hour or two.
ReMark
What are the specs on this awesome machine? What programs are running in the background? What OS are you using?
SLW210
Does a screensaver come on during this time?
fle
Intel dual core 3.30GHz 8gb Ram 64 Bit Windows 7 No screensaver. My autobackup is set to 5 minutes.
ReMark
Argh. What programs are running in the background? MS Office? Anti-virus? Browser? Music app? Etc., etc., etc.? Are you on a network or running standalone?
fle
The task manager applications shows acad11, inbox-ms outlook, Mozilla firefox browser. Norton AV is installed but its not scanning at the moment. This is standalone.
ReMark
Kill Outlook and your browser. Then kill Norton AV too. Then test. Does this happen with any drawing or a specific drawing? Do you have any/all service packs for 2011 installed?
fle
(oops-tried to send this before) The task manager shows Mozilla Firefox, Acad11, and Inbox-MS Outlook. Norton AV is installed but not scanning at the moment. This is standalone.
fle
I'll turn off outlook and norton and try it out. This happens with any drawing. All service packs are installed. Thanks, I'll let you know what happens. As I mentioned, its usually an hour or two before I notice it. I normally don't close acad til the end of the day, but I'll check it a lot more often. ReMark
Are these 2D or 3D drawings? What is a typical file size? What graphics card are you using?
fle
These are mostly 3D. File size varies up to about 8mb. The graphics card is ATI FirePro v4800.
ReMark
That is an entry level graphics card with about 1GB of videoRAM onboard isn't it? Are you seeing any "out of memory" errors by any chance? I'll be away from my desk shortly and may not get back to you for a couple of hours. There are a number of regular members that pop in and out of the forum throughout the day so if I am not here to help answer your questions (and pose many more of my own) someone else will surely see this thread and voice their opinion or offer a suggestion. Just hang in there. OK?
fle
Thank you ReMark- Correct on the video card. There are no out of memory errors popping up. Actually, everything is running smoothly until I go to close a drawing. No problem saving my work.
ReMark
Have you tried changing profiles? If it continues to happen or happens more often then you might consider do a Repair of your installation.
fle
I ran an installation repair this morning. I think I'll let this simmer for a few days and see if the problem reoccurs. I'll repost next week with results. Of course, my computer behaved perfectly yesterday. Thanks again.
