Intermittant Saving in 2009(long - sorry)

ReMark- you're right - the problem isn't solved in a real sense. I have been running with autosave off and don't have the problem of intermittant saves, but it isn't a real solution. It surprises me that no one on the Autodesk Forum piscked up on it or had a solution. Still your input and efforts are welcome and appreciated. You are a Luminous Being LOL thanks.

Hello

We had this problem in our office before, and we simply located all autosave and .bak files to folder named "Autosave" on the desktop.

I don´t know how this could make any differens but ever since we did this, the problem is gone!

ReMark, you are more "into" windows an ACAD than I am, maybe you have the answer to why this works for us.

Autosave is set to every 5 min and we changed Automatic Save File Location under Files in Options.

Another benefit with this is that it´s very easy to find the files when we need them.

Thank you for your info, but I don't think this will actually solve the problem. It will just make the "way to many saves at unusual times" go a little faster not stop happening. Good idea though having a separate location for the autosave files.

Another thought.

About the time you switched to AutoCAD 2009 did the IT department upgrade or change its virus protection software? It may be too aggressive or hogging too much memory.

No changes to that. It is handled at Corporate and we are a small division. Our upgrade didn't trigger a change and our IT guy says it is still the same as it was before we got 2009.

Well I have searched high and low on "intermittent save", "save problem", "unscheduled save" and a couple of other variations all without much luck. The only thing of interest I did find was when I, for whatever reason, searched on "slow save" and came across an article where a company had a conflict between AutoCAD and their WAN. AutoDesk and the manufacturer of the WAN both accused the other of being the culprit. Something to do with the drawing file format changing every three years and the ability of the WAN to handle the transmission of drawing files without slowing to a crawl. Made for interesting reading as I never knew such a problem could occur. Sorry, but your problem has left me scratching my head in puzzlement.

No problems prior to using AutoCAD 2009 of the same nature, right?

I haven't had any and I have used every version since V9; however, one of my co-workers said they had a problem with 2006. I've used 2006 here, but never had a problem with it.

Yea - this is a real head scratcher! I don't like having to disable a long standing feature and especially this featue. Eventhough I am a big, fat, paranoid, saving freak I still like having that backup. I can't tell you how many times it has saved me. Makes me sad - 'cause I really like ACAD. I've used Microstation - many years ago Version J I think it was. I liked Microstation too, but I have used ACAD longer and am more comfortable with it.

Back in the day I ran Microstation with two monitors (Unix). This was when Microstation had the icons and ACAD was still in pull down menus. I loved Microstation, but ACAD progressed to icons and it seemed at the time that Autodesk was used more by the industry than Bently.

Rambling - sorry. I guess I'll just have to stick with my duct tape solution.:(
