ammobake
You are comparing apples to oranges. Autodesk Inventor is the equivalent of SolidWorks (with similar price tag). Why would Autodesk add all the bells and whistles to base product when they can sell a vertical at a premium price comparable to the competition? I would like for my Vibe to be a Vette too. You are right. Inventor is the Autodesk version of Solidworks. Solidworks runs around $3-4 thousand brand new. Autocad 2010 runs about $4,000. Autocad Inventor 2010 is $5,295. With the system suite for stress analysis and and animation capability, Inventor runs at $7,000. Inventor "Pro Suite" is about $8,000. But the reason they should be adding the bells and whistles to their base product: To provide ease of use to customers paying top dollar for the best return on their investment. Also, if autocad were a little more robust and easier to use, Autocad could be the folks raking in the money instead of these companies selling Autocad Add-ons. I used to work for an HVAC company here in Alaska that used an Autocad add-on that was 12-13,000 dollars. It was an awesome add-on. But this just goes to show how Autodesk has marketed their products, too. They chose to sell these different CADD features as different programs altogether.. With Revit, it was to compete with companies like Bentley to try and become the new industry standard for Building Information Modeling as it is just now coming on the scene and starting to take over the old way of doing things architecturally . With Inventor, it is to compete with companies like Solidworks. In another 10 or so years, Revit will probably be the Industry standard for Architectural design. But alot of that just depends on how "BIM" takes over the old way of doing things and how long that takes to happen. -ChriS
