heypal Posted August 7, 2009 Posted August 7, 2009 Hello all. I am having a problem with 2000i when attempting to open files. When I start AC and go to the open command in the dialog box, then choose browse, and finally the "look in" pull down to pick a file, there are no files listed. Then when I go to cancel, it kicks me out of AC all togther. We have been using this program for years here and never had this happen. Can anyone help me out? Thansk, Pal Quote

Thanks, Pal Look at the bottom of the SELECT FILE window. Is files of type: set at Drawing (*.dwg)? Quote
heypal Posted August 10, 2009 Author Posted August 10, 2009 The print screen shows what I am getting when I try to open a file. Yes, DWG is delegated as the file type. The second I click anywhere on the screen after bringing up the screen shown below, the program shuts down instantly. Look at the bottom of the SELECT FILE window. Is files of type: set at Drawing (*.dwg)? Quote
gsksun4 Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 Not sure what the problem could be. I've never had that issue. Perhaps the more experienced will chime in. They often do. They're great problem solvers here. Good luck. Quote
Danse_Macabre Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 I don't know what to say other than I would try to restart the computer, and then maybe try repairing the installation, or re-installing all together. That seems to fix a lot of things...haha. Quote
ReMark Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 When did the problem first occur? Had you made any software or hardware changes? What are the specs on the computer you're using and what OS are you running? Quote
heypal Posted August 11, 2009 Author Posted August 11, 2009 It happened about a week ago when I was accessing files from our machine shop. No new hardware or software was added. I have a HP 4300 PC that is about 3-4 years old. Pentium 4 processor, 3.60 ghz, 3.50 GB Ram running on XP Pro. When did the problem first occur? Had you made any software or hardware changes? What are the specs on the computer you're using and what OS are you running? Quote
heypal Posted August 11, 2009 Author Posted August 11, 2009 Have you tried running Repair? I have not. How do you do that exactly?? Quote
ReMark Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 It can be found either in Add/Remove Programs or on the installation CD. The files from the machine shop. Could they be corrupted? Have you tried opening files that are on your hard drive? Quote
heypal Posted August 12, 2009 Author Posted August 12, 2009 To update. I un-installed AC, then did a restart of the computer, then re-installed AC. Same problem exisits? I am not sure what to try next? Quote
ReMark Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 Something is corrupted. Maybe a setting in your Registry. How did you uninstall AutoCAD? Quote
heypal Posted August 12, 2009 Author Posted August 12, 2009 I used the installation disk to un-install. Should I try a differant method? Quote
ReMark Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 No, you used the correct method. You get the same results starting a new drawing? Quote
ReMark Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 This is a networked computer looking in a folder stored on the network? Quote
heypal Posted August 12, 2009 Author Posted August 12, 2009 Opening a new drawing works fine. Yes, I am trying to access files on a network server. Quote
ReMark Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 Maybe the whole problem boils down to a pathing glitch? Ever stop to consider that? Quote
heypal Posted August 12, 2009 Author Posted August 12, 2009 Maybe the whole problem boils down to a pathing glitch? Ever stop to consider that? Unfortunalty no. I was banking on a re-install to fix the problem. In the mean time, I have been using Windows Explorer to access drawings on the server. I just can't use AC to open another file or it will boot me out. Arrgh. Trouble is, we are a small company without a genuine IT guy. If we ever get into real trouble, we call in the experts. Quote

This is a long shot, but I work in a place that does voice, data, fiber optic cabling. Are all your connections secure? Your outlet connection/faceplate on the wall or pole? Do any of your other softwares have trouble seeing the server? If you're using excel or word for instance? If so, the connections might need checking. Or the server in your communications/electrical closet might need checking or even rebooting. I'm wondering why you don't see your desktop, drives etc. when you go into open/look in:. Like I said, it's a long shot, but these things do happen. Good luck, Glenn USA Quote
heypal Posted August 12, 2009 Author Posted August 12, 2009 Nope, all connections are good. We also use SolidWorks here and that opens files with no problem. I also tried using another co-workers computer to see if he was having similar issues. His worked fine. This is a long shot, but I work in a place that does voice, data, fiber optic cabling.
