Another long shot but-

Have you got more than one user set up on your PC, and the user that is registered for the Acad does not have full access to the server?

Nope, all connections are good. We also use SolidWorks here and that opens files with no problem. I also tried using another co-workers computer to see if he was having similar issues. His worked fine.

It might be a Windows setting. Or, I understand there's a default setting when you install cad that points to where you want it to see. I've never done this, so I'm not positive. The others would know for sure. Also, when you do a save, check the path where it is saving to. See if the path is to your server if that's where you want it to save to.

Trying all ways here to help, but I'm not an expert.

I have the same problem. I tried a repair install with no luck. I uninstalled and completely re-installed acad and the problem is still there. Only Acad has this issue all other programs work normal. File open and file save look in boxes are blank. If you leave the window open too long Acad will exit to desktop. HELP!!!

Have you tried changing the REMEMBERFOLDERS variable back and forth between 0 and 1?

Shouldnt affect things the way that you show in your .jpg but often just giving things a 'shake' like that gets things back to normal

I have the same problem. It has happened to me before but I was never able to fix it. I had to use a clone copy of the hard drive. I have tried the repair and the re-install of autocad and the problem still exists. When you click either file open or file close the look in box is blank. If you leave the window open autocad will eventually crash and close. HELP!!!

Did you ever get this fixed????

No, it still does it. It is a real pain in the ass as I use windows explorer to open drawings. I am not sure if it is related, but I also have to be careful with Window Explorer. If I close out of it, my PC locks up and I have to crl/alt/delete and shut it down. Does your computer do this also?

I finally found the problem. It took me 7 hours of intensive work. Everything was fine yesterday until I created to shortcuts on the desktop to another computer on the network. Once I deleted these the file open/save box was back to normal. I can still access these through "my network" but do not put them on the desktop. Delete any shortcuts you have and let me know.

I will be damned, it worked!!!!!!!!!! Just as you suggested, I deleted the short cuts and waalaa..back to normal!! Thank you so much for posting this as I had given up. I have been working like this for months so it is great to have it back to normal!

Thanks and happy holidays!

I found a fix for the blank file open/close window. Delete any shortcuts you have on your desktop to other computers or network locations and use the "my network places" instead. Let me know if this works for you. It fixed my problem and made autocad load quicker as well.

If anyone is confused, I merged the two threads regarding this problem :)
