When you customers come in or email you a drawing aren't they required to provide some basic information or do they just say "whatever"?

....: '_dist >>Specify

first point: >> Specify second point:

Distance = 1156.328, Angle in XY Plane = 0d0'0", Angle from XY Plane = 0d0'0"

Delta X = 1156.328, Delta Y = 0.000, Delta Z = 0.000

...

So the DIST-command tells you that the paper is 1156 mm (I assume mm, please correct me if I am wrong). If you do DIST on the vertical length of the paper I am guessing that you'll end up somewhere around 840. Which would mean that you have an A0-paper on your hand. And I would also then assume that you can ideed print this at scale 1:1 and it will come out correctly.

Notice all the assumeing and guessing in there. If I were you, I would go to you boss and say that for these kinds of jobs, where you have to print from Autocad - you have to at least get information from the client as to what paper size the client wants it on! Like remark said, it is quite possible to scale it around and get more than one paper size from the same drawing. I know that I print A1's and A3's all the time, depending on who needs the drawings. Handing out A1's to the actual guys on site that does the work gives me some hard stares.

The other is like Chelsea said, AutoCAD is actually telling you that you don't have the specified font, so it's replacing it with something else. That is also something that you want to ask the clients about. If they care to get their text printed correctly, then they should send you their font.

Another suggestion, beside what ReMark said about finding an AutoCAD-book and reda up on suitable paragraphs (which I must say, I would charge to the company if they want you to do this right) is that when you get an actual printing assignment - start a thread here and give us screenshots of the Plot dialogue box, it's much easier to explain with an actual example at hand. And after some help from the forum, you'll get the hang of it soon :)

All sounds a bit strange to me.

If I send anything to an outside printer I have the drawing complete, to the right scale set out in Paper space on what ever size sheet i want. I then produce a PDF file and take that to the printer. Why on earth would any draftsman give an AutoCad file to an outside printer, that they could alter etc a million ways.

I agree with you Dodge, I never send anything but PDFs to printers, with a list of number of copies needed of each drawing size. And if I miss something, they're sure as hell gonne reply me and ask to complete the order.

But if AFS setup is like this, then we can do our best to help him do his best.

Most of the repro shops in my area will accept a dwg file although they would prefer a plt file. They're so busy they don't have time to sit there and alter your drawing. What would be the point anyway? If they printed it and you noticed something was wrong the person could lose their job and the company could be sued.
