Guest ryan Posted February 17, 2003 Posted February 17, 2003 I am trying to convert dwgs from an AutoCAD 2000 to Microstation format. If you know how or have any sudgestions, please let me know. Thank you, Quote
Mr T Posted February 17, 2003 Posted February 17, 2003 Probably 'save as' a lower version ie release 12 ? Nick Quote
Guest robfowler Posted February 17, 2003 Posted February 17, 2003 I don't know Microstation's capabilities but if it can import DXF files then you could do a "Save As" out of AutoCAD in DXF format and then import it into Microstation. Rob. Quote
Guest robfowler Posted February 17, 2003 Posted February 17, 2003 Beat me to it by 3 mins Nick - and that was only because I got shouted through the house to see a bit on the news! Rob. Quote

DEBRA Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 I get a lot of auto cad lite files and they will not open in Microstation. help Quote
SLW210 Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 What types of files can you import? What version of Microstation? Quote
envisioncad Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 Here is a link about the new MicroStation and Autodesk® object enablers. http://communities.bentley.com/products/microstation/w/microstation__wiki/bentley-v8i-selectseries-1-autodesk-174-realdwg-tm-2010-faq.aspx HTH, Bob Mecham Quote
SLW210 Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 What is the file extension? We still need more information about the files. Quote
DEBRA Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 DGN and DWG are the only ones I know about Quote
DEBRA Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 I forgot to tell you the version of Micro Station 08.09.04.51 I think Quote
SLW210 Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 That helps, but what are the file extensions on the files you are trying to open? Quote
SLW210 Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 Intellicad.dwg Well even though it is a .dwg file if it is an intellicad .dwg i am not sure if it will open in Microstation. You might see if someone can open it in AutoCAD then save it. Quote
DEBRA Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 Thank you So it sounds like I would be better off just when I ask for cad files I specify DGN format. But when I ask do I need to request that reference file be attached or is that only apply to Auto cad .DWG files? Quote
SLW210 Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 AutoCAD can export to V8 and V7 DGN, if they are using Intellicad I have know idea what to tell you. You might try using .dxf, pretty sure Microstation can use that. Quote
envisioncad Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 Debra, the version of MicroStation you are using XM 08.09.04.51 supports DXF and DWG 11-2008. The dwg file might be 2009 or later. MicroStation can reference DWG files but if you are having difficulty opening them you will have a problem referencing them. HTH, Bob Mecham Quote
DEBRA Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 Thank you I will request that next time and give it a try Quote
Fastdraft Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 I convert a lot of AutoCAD drawings to Microstation V8 or higher (if that is the version you are trying to use) and i always open the drawing in AutoCAD and save it out as AutoCAD 2000/LT2000 DWF (*.dxf) file, then I open Microstation and reference that .dwf file in, then I merge the .dwf into Microstation. After that it should be a microstation file, you might have to scale the file a little but it works great (usually have to scale by a factor of 12) Quote
