Why this peace of software runs equally fast/slow as 2004 version was running on much weaker computer when dealing with the same file is a mystery to me.
It's not really a mystery. I know for a fact that I can do most things faster on an old 386@25MHz with 4MB RAM and 40MB HDD running ACad R10 on DOS 6, than I can attempt to do using an i7-2600@3.4GHz with 16GB RAM and 1TB HDD running ACad 2011 on Win7-64bit.

This is because of the mentality of programmers since the start of the 90's. As the hardware became more powerful and cheaper, they generally left the hard-part away when creating their programs. In the early days, they needed to make sure their program uses as little as possible RAM and doesn't swamp the CPU - so they tended to make extremely efficient programs in the 70's & 80's. All this changed when hardware made it not so much needed anymore. Thus their focus shifted to making programs do more stuff, adding extra features and painting some bling on to make it look "pretty".

As a general rule, this causes them to overshoot the mark. I.e. they put so much useless features / makeup on as to use-up the extra RAM / Speed from the new hardware (and then some). So you end up with a program that looks nicer and has more bells & whistles, but runs slower than the old stuff. Unfortunately for software companies, they can't simply state: "Enough's enough already! We'll stop introducing new features and work on making our products faster, more robust and more efficient." I know that ADesk will loose their market share quite quickly if they do this, since other alternatives are snapping at their heels (e.g. BricsCAD which is now adding dynamic blocks, annotative scales, fields, ect.). Thus a lot of customer's would jump over to the much cheaper clones if there's not much difference in feature set.

Well, SLW210, since it is a computer (not a hammer) it comprises the components you inquired about.

Lenovo Workstation E20

Intel Core i5

3.2 GHz 650M 4GB RAM + 4GB extra (DDR3 1333MHz)

VGA LENOVO NVIDIA QUADRO 600 1GB

Windows 7 pro is OS and it is brand new installation.

It seems that installing updates for ACAD 2011 LT solved the problem. But it worked till today just fine.

The thing that bothers me the most is complete lack of information and support on the subject. Our sails rep said that it is probably the driver issue?! Why did it work in the first place then...? The matter was solved by chance only.

As to the nails... when you get the handle without the head it doesn't really matter what type of nails you have...

Plenty of computer, what about the files? Is it just certain files? What makes you think it is slow? I turned off all the bells and whistles for Windows 7 to help my situation. Seems to me 2011 is just got some problems. I am tempted to to try the trial for 2012 just to compare.

What is your driver for the Nvidia Quadro 600? It should be 8.17.0012.6570.

The driver is 8.17.12.5981. Is this OK?

You are right. Same thing happened with computer games.

It is ridiculous that this great new (and cheap) hardware is not used in connection with 70 and 80's brains. This kind of thinking is still around.

You should update your DRIVER . Make sure you have all of your service packs/updates and Object Enablers installed.

Plenty of articles on turning off the useless bells and whistles in Windows 7.
