Devilinity Posted September 18, 2008 Posted September 18, 2008 Is it possible to make a black gloss type material have a shine on flat surface? Cos as soon as i stick a light in the image, it just becomes matt black and no shine gloss Quote
Cad64 Posted September 18, 2008 Posted September 18, 2008 Render the scene. Then you should see the gloss. Quote

nocturne00 Posted September 18, 2008 Posted September 18, 2008 I think it is reflecting, but just the grey ground thats why it looks like matte black, try to replace the color or material of the ground to check Quote

nocturne00 Posted September 18, 2008 Posted September 18, 2008 if you want a really reflective material, try to use the polished metal material. very reflective. I used polished metal on the Ebony Gun at the showcase section. it also helps to actually have things to reflect around it. Quote

nocturne00 Posted September 18, 2008 Posted September 18, 2008 I didnt use an image, the surrounding entities are also rendered objects. Im still gettin used to materials application in 2008 so im not sure if there is an option to have a jpeg image reflected from a surface of an object, in aCAD2006 i can do it coz its all in the RMAT command. but in CAD2008 im not sure where that option has gone.. nocturne00 Posted September 18, 2008 Posted September 18, 2008 i tried adding image to reflect, sort of adnormal looking .... the setting is under maps tab in material editing So it worked? the black matte can now reflect stuff ^_^. Also try to add some dim point lights around the object, looks good depending on how you position them to be reflected. Quote
Cad64 Posted September 18, 2008 Posted September 18, 2008 I have but its giving me the black matt Well of course it looks like flat black, your entire object is in shadow and your camera location is behind the object with the light on the other side. You can't see relections in the dark and you can't see reflections if there is nothing else in the scene to reflect. Your black gloss finish is just reflecting the blackness around it. As Nocturne suggested, brighten up the scene by adding more lights and add more objects into the scene to reflect in the gloss finish of your main object. Quote
papagyi Posted September 18, 2008 Posted September 18, 2008 I have but its giving me the black matt You need to move and up your light source and need to change material setting. Then how about your materials setting (eg..floor,...some black box)? Can you post your dwg file? Quote
Devilinity Posted September 19, 2008 Author Posted September 19, 2008 Manage to get it to this, slightly better ... Quote
papagyi Posted September 19, 2008 Posted September 19, 2008 Or this ... Cheer friend! If you will be more light to clear scene ,we can say more. Quote
nocturne00 Posted September 19, 2008 Posted September 19, 2008 Nice one, maybe a litter more intensity to the light will better illuminate the object itself. or try to add some point lights that dont cast shadows,,, could be cool Quote

Devilinity Posted September 20, 2008 Author Posted September 20, 2008 Hmm i'm wondering, does using the sun function cancel out the light function and vise versa ... Cos when I use sky + background, I get no shadow on the ground but when I use spotlight it gives shadow when I turn off the sky ... Quote

shift1313 Posted September 20, 2008 Posted September 20, 2008 i was curious about this so i gave it a quick shot. a black block in the center that has shinyness and opacity at 100 and a 1.25refraction index and 75 self illumination. and a sphere on the block that has low opacity/high translucency, a point light inside it that cast shadows, and a blue diffusion color. i also just used a spot light and the sun to reflect the shingle material off the wall onto the block.
