Tyke
AutoCAD 2012: Command: trace Unknown command "TRACE". Press F1 for help. Perhaps they forgot to remove it from the German language version . I get a similar explanation to your error message in the User Guide, but it still works. I don't when it was "removed" but it works as BAND or _TRACE in all my German language versions. It also says the system variable TRACEWID was also removed from the product, but it works for me from the command line and through Express Tools. What happens with you Mark? martinle
In 2012, the ACAD command still works as always!

Tharwat
Perhaps somebody using an "older" English version might be able to try it? That's right , it is still available in 2010 here .
martinle
I think now is the object band (trace) clarified. Is there a way for this to convert this into polylines? This would be just great!
SLW210
_TRACE works in 2011. Creates solid lines. Summary The endpoints of a trace are on the center line and are always cut square. TRACE automatically calculates the correct bevels for connection to adjacent segments. Each segment is drawn after you either specify the next segment or press Enter. Because of the way bevels are handled, TRACE has no undo option. Traces are solid filled when Fill mode is on. When Fill mode is off, only the outline of a trace is displayed. List of Prompts The following prompts are displayed. Specify trace width : Specify a distance or press Enter Specify start point: Specify a point (1) Specify next point: Specify a point (2) Specify next point: Specify a point (3) or press Enter to end the command
Tyke
_TRACE works in 2011. The underscore is only needed in non-English language versions, it has no relevance in English versions, TRACE will work fine
SLW210
The underscore is only needed in non-English language versions, it has no relevance in English versions, TRACE will work fine  It is customary on this Forum to post all commands with the underscore. People from many countries and languages use this forum and do not know they need the underscore. I am quit aware I do not need it. P.S. It works just fine in the English version with the underscore.
martinle
This command is very good band or _trace. Man, this object can not explode! But since I also have to edit the lines move more like etc. .. I'm here at my wit's end! Martin

SLW210
Since this command seems to be on the way out, you need to start using _PLINE and adding a width.

ReMark
The TRACE command is available in AutoCAD 2007 and 2010. I never loaded 2011. From Cadalyst magazine tips section... "The only caveat is that the Trace command is modified by the FILLMODE setting variable. If the FILLMODE is set to 1, the Trace command will fill (like a solid hatch). If it's set to 0, it won't." Tyke
Since this command seems to be on the way out, you need to start using _PLINE and adding a width. Precisely. And that was my point in post #15 too.
ReMark
I got it figured out thanks to blog nauseum. In AutoCAD 2012 the TRACE command is there but it has been undefined. If you want to get it back you have to REDEFINE it. Same goes for the commands DSVIEWER, BLIPMODE and SCREENMENU.

Only there is no miter. Also, an outer contour of my adjusted width is not available in a polyline. Therefore, the order is so interesting. ReMark
In my version of 2012 polyline corners are mitered.

Is there a way to transform these objects into polylines or trace? Apologies for the bad English! lg. Martin
martinle
What do you mean by MITER? Then what would be the purpose of converting your BAND into a polyline? If one could convert the objects to polylines would be to edit the handle in the middle and you could also add vertices to polyline (going from version 2011 I think) with the right mouse button from the context menu. Further work would be simply more flexible. In strip objects since soon enough! Martin
