I doubt very much if that will work with AutoCAD LT which is what netman is wrestling with. No AutoLISP.

Netman, do a directory search for ACADLT.* inside Windows Explorer which you can start by pressing the Windows Key and the E key together.

hugha,

Thank you for your input. I can only deal with one route at a time. Remark has a lot of time expended with me and I will ride this route a little while longer. I am sure it is MY error in this mayhem.

You are correct though on one thing, NOTEPAD keeps grabbing the zip file.

Thank you and I will certainly try your method if I need to go another route.

NotePad should NOT be grabbing the zip file unless you associated it with the particular file type. Perhaps you have misstated what file NotePad is actually grabbing?

REMARK,

I will attempt this tonight. Thank you again for spending such a huge amount of time with me on this.

I'll take a stab at it tonight when I come in form the shop. I am sure it is something I am not doing exactly.

The screen shots are perfect.... you must have been a teacher at some point.

Thank you and I will run the route tonight and post a follow up.

Thank you again.

Another option.

Create a new folder in the root drive ( C:\ ).

Put your individual custom PAT files in this folder.

Open AutoCAD. Invoke the Options command (there are a couple of ways to do this) and click on the Files and Folder tab.

Add the path to your new folder to the Support File Search path. After doing so click on the Apply button. Close out the Options window.

Example:

Let's say you name this folder CustomHatch. The path would be C:\CustomHatch.

Now when you use the Hatch command AutoCAD will automatically look in this folder. You should see your new custom hatch patterns listed.

netman: Did you finally solve your problem or not?

Remark,

I am finally able to sit down at the computer and look at this again. Its Saturday evening 3:40 PM here in Louisiana.

My sincere thanks for bearing with me on this.

Here goes again.....

What is a root drive and wheer would it be located. On the COMPUTER or in AUTO CAD itself?

Posted

  1. Opened AC LT 12
  2. Tools
  3. Options
  4. Support files Path

* there are 5 folders already there from the software. All of them start with C:/

The first starts with USERs....the rest say Program files

5. I click on ADD

6. I can not paste anything there...no right click on the mouse ....nothing. I can not locate the hatch file by itself when i use BROWSE. I have to put the HTH 2337 (hatch file) INSIDE of a NEW folder and put that folder in Documents. I called that folder New hatch folder.

7. I can then find THAT folder and place that in the new ADD blank under Support Files PAth

8. Add> OK close

I clsoe out and exit AC

I restart....the new file is still in place BUt No hatches.

there are 4 hatches grouped in that zippered file.

PLAN 2:

I went to the Computer> AC Program files > Support Files

I pasted the HTH 2337 zippered hatch file directly in with all the other Ac files there and closed

PLAN 3

I did both, then I did each one separately

still nothing.

what Am i doing wrong??

Posted

I have found two files

  1. Acadltiso Hatch PAtterns definitions
  2. Acadlt Hatch pattern definitions

Until you have extracted the PAT files from the HTH2337.zip file absolutely nothing will happen.

The root file is normally drive "C:\". It refers to your hard drive not AutoCAD. I get the sense here that you are pretty much a stranger to the inner workings of a computer.

When adding a path to the Support Files Search Path most of us will actually type the path in especially if it is a short one like C:\CustomHatch. Longer ones can be copied from Windows Explorer and pasted in.

If you have found the correct location of the two files mentioned in the above post then you have the option of copying the extracted PAT files to the same folder. Again, I would advise against editing either file as I think you'll just run into more problems given your lack of experience.

You are correct. I am lacking in experience with the inner workings of a computer.

I can live with out the new hatches until i find out what went wrong.

I actually got the files , extracted, into the Acadltiso and acadlt ( PAT) files.

The file showed up in the CUSTOM HATCHES.... but when I clicked on it, a warning came up and said the fiels were corrupt.

I back tracked and deleted everything. I am sure it was user error and I did something to the extracted files....who knows.

I can live without the new hatches. I just saw those expanded metal hatches and they looked more realistic for "netting" than did the standard AC HAtch No. 137.

Thank you again.

The hatches do work as I downloaded and installed them myself on two different systems. Did you edit the existing PAT files or did you just put copies of the custom files in the same folder?

Posted

I did not edit anything .

when i dropped the codes into the acadltiso.PAT and the acadlt.PAT ( separately ) the screen asked if I wanted to save. I clicked yes.

The computer said I was denied and asked if I wanted to put the file in Documents?

Either way, the files showed up in the Custom HATCH but were unusable.

I retraced my exact steps up to the the AC Support Path in OPTIONS....maybe you can decypher what I did wrong.

Thank you again.

This is what I did STEP for STEP in Windows 7 Ofiice 2012.docx

Posted

...."edited in NotePad"..... is not exactly correct. They seem to BE in Notepad when I am finished with everything and closing down.

Posted

Stop, stop, stop. DO NOT EDIT EITHER OF THE ACAD LT HATCH PATTERN FILES.

After extracting the custom files from the zip file that was downloaded PUT BOTH FILES IN THE CORRECT SUPPORT FOLDER.

Posted

Ok.... That's my problem.... I do not know which is the Correct Support Folder.

We are talking about the SUPPORT FOLDER in WINDOWS 7, listed under Programs> Autodesk> It has the Folder ICON and had SUPPORT on it.

When Its opened there a lot of subfiles . Except for the first two COLOR and Videos the rest are subfolders and Windows can not open them.

Posted

We went all through this at least two if not three times now. The "correct" folder is the one that AutoCAD returns to you when you type (findfile"acadlt.pat") at the command line then press Enter.

Posted

i did this already as you instructed. It came back

Command:

Command: (findfile"acadlt.pat") LISP command is not available.

Create a new folder on drive C: and name it CustomHatch.

Put both custom PAT files (not the zip file itself) in this folder.

Do you want me to COPY these two acad.PAT files or actually MOVE them into this folder on C:

Posted

I want you to leave acadlt.pat and acadltiso.pat alone. Do not touch them. Do not copy them. Do not move them. They have no bearing on what we are doing.

Put copies of the extracted custom hatch patterns (for diamond plate and expanded metal) in this new folder.
