im using auto cad 2013 and i was wondering how i would go about making a 3d object using specific x,y,z coordinates.

i used the line tool with the exact coordinates i require. all the lines connected but dont know how it turns into a 3d object.

I've been trying to figure this out for a week now its very frustrating! any help would be much appreciated. am i using the right software for this? should i be using 3ds max instead..?

If you import all the xyz as points then use something like civ3d you can make a 3d terrain model else search for Triangulation

what format would you like me to save it as? .dwg ?

i uploaded it waiting for a moderater to approve the link

I approved your post, but there is no need to wait if you use the "Go Advanced" at lower right of reply box then "Manage Attachments" and upload the .dwg directly to CADTutor.

Are you trying to create a solid, mesh, surface .....?

Are the coordinates in a comma delimited file by any chance?

How did you get the lines into AutoCAD? Did you use a script file?

Any hints on what the object might be or do we have to just keep guessing?

Please attach a copy of the DWG file to your next post. Thanks.

Is the object supposed to be open?

What's the thickness?

Is this kind of what you had in mind for your mystery object?

No, it is not a solid....yet.

yes it is.. how were you able to do that because that was one layer!

I used 3Dpolylines and the Region command if you must know.

Object depicted in Conceptual visual style. I elected to change the object's color.

Yes, it was one layer. Why does that surprise you?

What is the object's thickness?

Now that I think about it some more the object could probably be done a different way. The SHELL command comes to mind but first the gross geometry would have to be constructed as a solid. I'll give it some thought.

Some lines appear to hand constraints assigned to them. Why?

when you say the objects thickness do you mean pixels? if that is the case then 1px.

and also the object is one of 3 layers.. i havnt made the other 2 yet as im trying to do this one first

ok so i have to redo what i have done by doing the following:

1. use 3Dpolylines instead of lines.

2. i type into the Command line: REGION

thank you very much for your help so far!!

Thickness as in material thickness. Is the object going to be made out of metal, plastic, ceramic, wood, other?

Does it have to be a solid and what is the intended end purpose? I ask because their might be an easier way depending on what you need it for. I am guessing that you are new to CAD/3D, correct?

Most of the way there as a solid. Now it just requires a little magic to get the final results.

Material thickness would be a big help as "pixels" in AutoCAD really doesn't mean much.
