hht Posted May 22, 2013 Posted May 22, 2013 hi,when i draw a line with 4 units in autocad the line seems as small as a point but in the example i watched it was long enough so how can change line length shown and in the another example i watched after clicking the line command and specifying first point the user was typing a length in the command line as 4'7-1/2 and clicking enter.after this the line's direction and length was automatically forming.but when i doing the same it doesnt work.how can i do both of these.thank you. ReMark Posted May 22, 2013 Posted May 22, 2013 First change your UNITS to Architectural via the UNITS command. Don't forget to set the Precision too ( 1/16th" is not uncommon ). Quote
ReMark Posted May 22, 2013 Posted May 22, 2013 Re: Direct distance entry at command line. First, make sure Orthomode ( F8 ) is enabled. Start your line command, pick your first point, drag your mouse in the direction you want the line to go then type 4'7-1/2" followed by pressing the ENTER key. Done. Quote

ReMark Posted May 22, 2013 Posted May 22, 2013 Upper left hand corner of your screen. See that BIG, red "A"? Click on the down arrow, go to Drawing Utilities and from the flyout menu select UNITS. A window should appear on your screen. Do it. Now. Quote

ReMark Posted May 22, 2013 Posted May 22, 2013 The method I described will still work even if you are not in orthomode and you are drawing a line at some arbitrary angle. Did you change your units as I specified? Quote
hht Posted May 22, 2013 Author Posted May 22, 2013 It looks like this. i made it architectural ,precision 0'-01/16'' and the units inches but it is still too small Quote
ReMark Posted May 22, 2013 Posted May 22, 2013 Attach a copy of this drawing to your next post. You did use the acad.dwt and not the acadiso.dwt (dwt = drawing template). The first is for imperial units and the second is for metric units. Quote
steven-g Posted May 22, 2013 Posted May 22, 2013 It sounds like you need to use the ZOOM command, and then use the option to pick an object (pick the line you have just drawn) Quote
ReMark Posted May 22, 2013 Posted May 22, 2013 You can always try a Zoom > All or a Zoom > Extents. Quote
hht Posted May 22, 2013 Author Posted May 22, 2013 mr.remark i took the image its on my desktop but i cant take it replay window.can you say me please. Quote
ReMark Posted May 22, 2013 Posted May 22, 2013 Did you try any of the advice about doing a zoom? Yes or no? Quote
hht Posted May 23, 2013 Author Posted May 23, 2013 i tried the zoom. it s okay.working but for checking i want to take two pics here how can i took them here.and there is an another problem.when i study if i dont remember how can i learn which template i chose. Quote
ReMark Posted May 23, 2013 Posted May 23, 2013 (edited) There are a couple of ways to capture a screen image. What version of Windows are you using? 1. Use your PrtScn key at the top (right) of your keyboard. 2. Use the key combination of ALT+PrtScn 3. Use a screen capture program such as Snag-It or Windows 7 "snipping tool". You can paste an image into a program like MS Paint using the key combination of CTRL+V. When you start a new drawing you should get a list of all available templates that ship with AutoCAD. Metric users should probably start by using the acadiso.dwt file. Users of imperial units should start by using the acad.dwt file. Edited May 23, 2013 by ReMark Quote
ReMark Posted May 23, 2013 Posted May 23, 2013 The template circled in red is the default one that AutoCAD will open upon first use. It uses imperial units. The one circled in blue is recommended for those using metric units. If a template has "3D" included as part of its name it is specific to working in a 3D modelling workspace. Quote
