Slow opening file - Autocad Architecture 2009

Some of my dwg files are taking up to 10-15mins to open. (3d work, 30mb-40mb+ files) There are no xrefs or images in these files, but they mainly consist of many 3d models, lighting and materials; as i'm rendering interior design scenes.

I have done all of the usual purging/auditing commands but it doesn't effect the time it takes to open a file.

I'm using Autocad Architecture 2009 with this system:

-XP SP2 32bit

-AMD Athlon 64 X2 dual core 4600+ @2.4Ghz

-4GB ram

-Nvida GeForce 6150

...but the results aren't any different even when i use my other system:

-Vista Ultimate 64bit

-Intel Q6600 @3.2Ghz

-8GB ram

-ATI Radeon HD4870 1GB

Is there any solutions for this problem?

What OS are you running on the two computers?

Have you checked on the number of scale lists?

When you purged did you purge Regapps too?

Yes, I reset the scale list and also purged regapps.

Anything else i should be looking for?

My Vista system destroys the other system on rendering times however i find it strange that it doesn't cope much better with opening the file. Which leads me to beleive that my problem isn't hardware related.

Yes hardware acceleration is enabled in '3dconfig'. (if thats what you're referring to)

Autodesk service packs are up to date, but i do have 'avg' and 'zonealarm' running only on the XP system...and very few background apps on the vista system.

Curses...foiled again!

I have a really long list of things that can make plain AutoCAD bog down. But you say it is only when the drawing opens. At no other time do you have a problem?

I do get the occasional slowdown when modelling on the xp system such as copy&pasting slightly more complex 3dsolids & when orbitting etc. (I'm using the xp system most of the time as that is my work computer; the vista system is my home computer)

But the main slowdown is when opening the file it hangs at 99% for a lifetime.

Is there anything else i should try, could it have something to do with how i am creating my drawings, too much lighting etc?..

Or maybe there is some settings i need to change under my options?

Any other drawings displaying this kind of behavior or is it just these rather large ones?

By the way, when you save the drawing, is it shaded or wireframe?

Only with the large ones, they start off fine but as i add more and more to them (solids, materials, lighting), they obviously get bigger in size which gives me problems opening them.

I'm saving them in wireframe..

I have a list another forum member put together that addresses possible areas affecting AutoCAD performance (i.e. - slow). It may/or may not hold the key to your problem. If you are interested I can email it to you. PM me with your email address.

I havn't had chance to have a proper look at that list you gave me, but i have set 'history' on all of my 3d solids to none and that seems to have helped.
