Something has happened to the solid cover. It's corrupt or something. I tried that yesterday and it didn't work. So, I tried it on another solid in the drawing and it worked.

Now that I know a different way I can easily make it over and will take a tenth of the time.

One more,

Am I to assume that if fillet rounds edges in 3D that chamfer will do the same at the base of built in spacers? Where I don't have to create a shape, revolve it and then place it and union it?

Chamfer will put a beveled edge on an object.  There will be no voids to fill in or worry about.

Yes, you can chamfer as well.

 

Yes, you have issues with the solid in the drawing you posted. Most likely from trying the subtract and union. 

 

You are correct, you should be able to start over and do a better job.

 

If you hit a snag just ask questions and post the .dwg if you need the solid looked over.

I kinda figured that when it would work on one solid and not the other. Not my first rodeo on messing up a drawing.

There was a knurled roller I wanted to draw in 3D once ... let's just say I saved it a reminder not to try to let AutoCad render to many surfaces in a drawing. it crashes upon start up.

 

At least that was my guess.

What 3D printer do you use and how do you like it?

 

I've going through various reviews and testing sights trying to determine which to buy, the tech is improving and prices were decent for some well reviewed models/brands.

It's an old Creality and it needs some new parts. You have to baby it, and it takes time to print, or should I say I make it print slow, so it doesn't get confused.  I really like the look of the new enclosed Creality's but I'm not a hard core Creality fan. I'm looking too for a new one. Also $700.00 to $1000* with accessories is within my budget (It's a hobby).

There are some expensive one's out there. The last cover I tried to print on it leaned to one side (also not a professional 3D printer) and it is second hand. But I am used to the software. A little about me I'm 64 and retired. Most my jobs were around machinery. I never learnt electronics, so I started learning because I wanted to remake a favorite from my past. 

This is just one part of that project.

I have a few more post here where you, ReMark and several others have helped me before. Lofting and revolving were amazing tools to learn for a newbie like me. With several corrupt drawing restarts, I got here:

3D printing will be mostly a hobby. Grandkids particularly my grandson wants to do some 3D printing. Hopefully that budget works for something decent, I could go more, but wouldn't want to if that gets a reliable machine.

Haven't attached any materials really. So, it isn't realistic. Just some standard color to know the difference in the parts, where they go and make sure they fit. Already spent about $200-$250 including speakers. Sooo, I guess I'm in too far to back up now.

 

Here never a dull moment ... I went to put out garbage and left the door open (Only a couple, three minutes) and closed the door coming back in.  and hear something turn around and I'm in a full-blown war with a moccasin snake. I live in the country, also not my first rodeo with a snake ... he's losing!

The snake is in very bad shape. Don't think he knew how coming in my house would ruin his day. He's under the washer and dryer and I've haven't heard any sounds for a while and no movement. The new shovel I just bought has already been worth it.  several good gashes all along his body. Not really wanting to kill the snake but he's in the house and poison.

I usually try to shoo them out or I have picked them up. But I did kill a Coral snake a few years ago, was getting too close to the Grandson and refused to go in another direction.

 

Southwest Florida here, surprisingly not many get in the house, but it happens.

Last one in the house was a banded water snake as I was headed to work I saw him in the dark move a little, maybe 2 1/2 to 3 ft. long.

Only like third or fourth in about 30 years of living here. I live smack in the middle of Alabama. I tried to get it to go back out. Even opened the door and it saw the door ... I even asked nicely. I guess we're at the FO stage of how this ends. I was planning to try and check out the new fillet command that I didn't know existed. But till I remove it dead or alive I'm having to watch around my feet and where I'm going.

While being on snake duty I managed to get and few fillets in. I've moved to the inside walls, and it keeps saying failure to fillet (invalid). I'm I missing something else or am I picking wrong or not understanding what it's wanting me to choose or how.

 

Snake update: I still have not seen or heard anything move since the war started and I got the upper hand.

Also, I've set the fillet to 1/16R a 32 diameter. Do you think that's too much? The wall is only 1/8 thick.

If I have issues I try a different radius. Sometimes selecting a different order helps.

 

Most times I try working with the 2D Wireframe Visual Style to make sure I get the correct edge. Getting used to 3D Rotate comes in handy as well.

 

P.S. I always work on a Copy of the solids, makes it easy to start over.
