JONTHEPOPE Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 Hi everyone im upgrading today . please post any suggestions for users like me eg: cui.file Quote
MaxwellEdison Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 Don't promise any quick turnarounds for a week or so. She's a different animal...and sometimes she bites Also make sure to install the latest service pack and autodesk approved drivers. Quote
ReMark Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 Always make a copy of your acad.cui file before you customize it. Quote
JONTHEPOPE Posted January 7, 2009 Author Posted January 7, 2009 hope they don't decide to get rid of vlisp in future additions Quote
chelsea1307 Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 be ready to look for things they are not always where you think they should be. I think learning the ribbon is good it makes some things way easy, but until you get used to it it can be quiet irritating. Quote
ReMark Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 Regarding the previous post. Keep the command MENUBAR=1 in mind. Quote
chelsea1307 Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 that woulda been nice to know when i did the switch... but hey now im used to the ribbon and it works just as well Quote
Lee Mac Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 Sorry to butt in here... but what is the "ribbon" that you are all talking about? Is it like a Mac menu bar? Quote
ReMark Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 The Ribbon was introduced in AutoCAD 2009 and its related products. It takes the place of the now classic menu bar. Microsoft introduced the Ribbon to Office a couple of releases ago I believe. AutoDesk is just emulating Microsoft. Big Brother envy. Quote
ReMark Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 And may I introduce to you, the one and only... http://www.thecadgeek.com/blog/2008/02/13/introduction-to-the-autocad-2009-ribbon/ Quote
Lee Mac Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 Ahh Thanks ReMark, very interesting indeed... although I am not sure I am a fan... I have used the new Office with ribbon in that and didn't really get on with it too well... - it took me ages to find print! - who would have thought you'd have to click on the office icon in the corner! But this ACAD ribbon looks somewhat the same, and I think I am so used to the classic menu bar that this ribbon would be wasted on me... let alone on the "old-timers"... Quote
ReMark Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 It took me some time too. I think the Ribbon forces one to click more often, some commands just appear on the weirdest panels, some commands seem to be missing that were on the drop down menus and they haven't quite figured out the whole customizing the Ribbon concept. I actually heard someone say AutoDesk did not expect the user to customize the Ribbon. Can you believe that? I'll ignore the "old-timers" thing altogether since I'm ancient, therefore it doesn't apply. Quote
MaxwellEdison Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 My biggest problem with the ribbon is that it takes up too much of the drawing area, or if you minimize it, you need to wait for it to expand and then click the appropiate tab and then click the command or drop down to the desired command. Too much hassle for me. I find myself reverting back to my command line days. I do have a few workspaces set up though and find that feature to be handy. The only Office product, in my opinion, where it seems the ribbon is an improvement would be Excel. Quote
Lee Mac Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 Yes, i agree Maxwell, just looking at the pics, I can imagine that the ribbon would take a lot of space. I have used the Excel with the ribbon - it is OK, but the graph functions kept crashing on me Quote
Lee Mac Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 HAHA, just saw your sig Maxwell, nice one.. Quote
dbroada Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 we still have 2009 in the cupboard and will probably wait for 2010. Can the command line still be used? 2 of us very rarely go near the menu or toolbars. iT WOULD BE A SHAME IF WE SLOWED DOWN TO THE SAME SPEED AS THE OTHER 2. sORRY ABOUT caps, JUST DROPPED THE KEYBOARD. Quote
chelsea1307 Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 the command line is still here if you want it to be. I like it but know some people like it hiden Quote
MaxwellEdison Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 Command line still works, thank God. I don't know what I'd do if it didn't. Quote
