Joining two parallel lines with single line
MrBlack911 posted a topic in AutoLISP, Visual LISP & DCLHello everyone, Very new to AutoCad & lisp coding so please forgive my ignorance. Am looking to join two (regular) parallel lines, end point to end point, with a single perpendicular line. Ideally it would be great if I could just window select the two lines I wanted connected but would settle for manually selecting the two end points. I know much has been said & done about achieving this with polylines etc but I need my lines to remain as just regular lines. I did find a lisp routine that came close but it joined the parallel lines with lines at both ends: thus creating a rectangle. Other routines have placed multiple lines between the two parallels creating a train track kind of look. Again, I apologise as the above mentioned lisps may be quite easy to modify so that only one line is added but that is currently above my pay grade! Hopefully my request has made sense & someone clever can solve my issue. Thank-you everyone. Brad
Dynamic Blocks | Rotate Parallel Lines and Maintain Perpendicular Distance
bluebravo posted a topic in AutoCAD Drawing Management & OutputHello! Quick FYI: (1) I am a brand new forum member, but I have looked up CAD issues on CADTutor various times! (2) I believe myself to be an intermediate level skilled CAD user Goal: I am trying to create a dynamic block of plywood that can be rotated, lengthened, and thickened. The block would contain two parallel lines and a hatch between them. I think I can achieve the lengthening with linear stretch and the thickening I can probably figure out, but I do need help with the rotation! Please see image for desired result: I have tried chained rotation actions, but the lines do not remain the same distance apart. Also, when all objects are rotated about the origin, the top line extrudes horizontally past the bottom (origin) which I do not want. I am not sure how wordy to be with my explanation, so I will leave it at this for now. Let me know if I need to provide anything else!
Can ACAD figure out the angle to put a line of specific length between parallel lines
Craigers posted a topic in AutoCAD Beginners' AreaI hope I can explain this simply enough: I am drawing a diagram to describe a mathematical word problem. Since it is easier to visualize with a drawing, I want to draw it using the given dimensions. But angles used in the diagram are unknown and are not needed for the answer to be calculated, so the only way to draw this freehand is to guess at the angle resulting in the correct distances to be off. Here is the word problem: There are two ladders, one 40 feet and the other 30 feet, each touching the base of one of two buildings and leaning against the other building. If the ladders cross 10 feet above the ground, how far apart are the buildings? So for my drawing, being rather simple considering what AutoCAD can do, results in this: Can AutoCAD calculate the angle needed to place a line of a given length between two parallel lines that are a distance apart less than the length of the line to place between them, having the endpoints of this line touching the parallel lines, fitting exactly? For the word problem, the distance between the two parallel lines is what needs to be solved and the math is quite invloved, having to find the roots or solution of a quartic equation. (I have the solution figured out to be 26.03287754 feet) What I am afraid of is that this would require to program an AutoLISP routine to create a new command that one can call from the command line. I see it using the the measure command with relative and absolute co-ordinates. This may be far from a "beginner" question. I can do this quite easily on a peice of paper: having two parallel lines drawn, take a ruler and placing the "0" mark on one line, then adjusting the angle until the desired length just reaches the opposite parallel line. I used to use this trick quite often when drafting with pencil and paper to divide a distance into a required number of even amounts, so this can't be that difficult to do with AutoCAD! If anyone needs further details just let me know!
