So, I'm using Windows 7 64 bit, see my details on my profile for my computer.

Start with the obvious, turn Aero off and any other Win7 eye candy.

1) try turning Selection Cycling off. You do this by toggling the SC button at the bottom center of the screen. If you are using Icons instead of text it should be the one to the left of the paper/model toggle button. This is a great feature; just toggle it on when needed. Also try toggling Quick Properties (QP) off, the icon is found at the bottom of the screen next to SC.

2) Vista and Win7 - Control Panel: System and Security: System

In the left hand menu choose "Advanced System Settings"

In the "System Properties" dialog box choose the "Advanced" tab

Under "Performance" choose "settings"

In the "Performance Settings" dialog box choose the "Visual Effects" tab

Choose the "Custom" option and uncheck "Enable desktop composition"

2a) Or uncheck all the options as a test, add back Smooth edges of screen fonts

Other obvious things, don't have the command line floating, dock it instead. Turn off toolbar transparency. Turn off the layer manager as a test, if you keep it open.

Otherwise, see the attached and try them on for size.

@ rkent: Just been fiddling around with it, but it doesn't seem to work.

@ ReMark: Opening, exporting and save as are slow as well.

I think I should ask for a decent station... Apparently AutoCAD doesn't make use of the whole dual core capacity of my CPU. Because it can't for saving etc. Just for regens and that kind of things.

You're right, AutoCAD does not make use of multi-core technology in any effective way other than what you have already encountered.

Maybe this link applies and maybe it doesn't but it might be worth a look.

Maybe we should make a checklist and post it as a text file. Then we can tell people who post with a similar problem to download the file, print it, go through it one item at a time, check off each item as it is completed and/or verified then post back here with the results. LOL
